As I've said all along, 2 firsts was an overpay for Burns. We should've done the deal. Now we get this. Fitt ain't it.

Those two 1st rounders would have probably both been top 5 picks as Kupp is seeing a specialist and Stafford's spinal problems. Was a dumb decision then not to take t hose picks, and it's still a dumb decision now.

Neither Fitt nor Frank have until 2026 to see if those picks pan out.

The Rams deal was a good offer, but keep in mind future and even further future firsts have much less value to GMs than current firsts.

True.  But those future first are more in line for a franchise taking the #1 overall QB in this years draft than some other teams.   Those are assets to build around him.  Which will be the focus in the upcoming seasons.

For 23M, he better get 15 sacks and not get taken out of the game on run plays by tight ends.

look at Crosby's stats vs. Burns'. Burns is a better player, that's just the going rate for pass rushers. Watt/Bosa are up in the 27/28 range and I don't think Burns has earned that but I'd do 24-25. Would be great to keep him for less but pass rushers get paid, and that market gets reset every year.

Imagine trading your homegrown talent and best defensive player for some unknown picks.

The thought process within this fanbase is baffling. I truly don't understand some of these comments. Go to any other sub and ask them to trade their best defensive player for some picks and see how that goes...

With a straight face you're suggesting we trade our best defensive player who's just entering his prime?

For two first rds, I’d do that in a New York minute given the situation of not having a qb

I like burns but two things and I’ll get blasted for it

1. Terrible against the run

2. Not there in big games, yes, I know he was ‘the only panthers player the opposing team needed to scheme for’…all the more reason to send him and take those picks to build the roster

‘hindsight is 20 20’ but he is nowhere near the top 3 edges for that money and if you had a team dumb enough to offer, 2 ones, you take it

True but it’s a slippery slope. Without Burns we would probably reach on a pass rusher in the 2nd leaving Young without Mingo. I mean if our front 7 looks questionable now, imagine it without Burns. Those Rams picks can’t be used until the next two drafts.

You don’t let players like Brian Burns get away…..period. Some of you are valid that Burns does not have have X factor impact on every game he has played, but he easily could reach that level and has shown improvement every year he’s played. He has been apart of some really bad teams, where our offense has given us zero chance to win. Some of you are valid in saying he’s not a top 3 player yet, but he’s close, and other than QB, he is playing a role that is the hardest to find, hence the reason his position pays so well. As you can tell, we have struggled to get someone solid you can depend on, on the opposite side of Burns, and he’s still producing at an all pro level. Take a second and imagine our team playing all year without spider man……it would be a disaster for our defense.

It’s a business these days

Rookie  contracts for QBs are a lot cheaper …the same with other premium positions

it’s an unknown and a ‘what if’ but quite honestly, please tell me 3 meaningful games in his career that he was the change agent?

if I’m a GM, that’s what I look at for premium money.  Tj watt in a 3 4 defense is a change agent, is burns?  And yes of course it’s supposedly a different position DE vs LB but it is yet to be seen if burns even fits it in real action with the new system

let me be clear, I hope he does

Why do you lose Mingo? You get pick 36 and still have 39. So they could have had D. Hall, Foskey, or Ojulari already. Plus 30M/year to spend. And if Stafford gets hurt and they wind up top 3-5, you will find out how valuable those future firsts are. Think Marvin Harrison Jr would help a young QB.
