Big fan of Burns but...

Yet when comparing him to Highsmith, you only wanted to talk entire careers and not just most recent season. So which is it?

Two different conversations that started at different times. Highsmith has one year of high production and thats why the Steelers got a steal on his deal.

This is exactly why I wanted to accept that trade. I had a feeling this was how it was going to go down. By rejecting multiple 1st rounders, you basically told Burns and the NFL where you value him, but now you are trying to negotiate a contract that doesn't match that sentiment. I had a feeling Burns was going to overvalue himself in these negotiations. The truth is Burns is not worth the money he is asking for. You can't just be a pass running specialist (is he even that?) and expect to paid like the top dogs, but that's exactly what he's expecting, which is why I would have taken those two 1st rounders in a heart beat.

I thought that he only missed 1 practice, and he was reportedly there, just not participating "for personal reasons". Have I missed something?

You aren't.

“No fault to anybody who is not participating,’’ Burns said. “But we’ve got something special, and I’m a big part of it, so I can’t miss no time. I’ve just got to be here.’’

...

But just because Burns never thought about holding out doesn’t mean the contract hasn’t been on his mind.

“Of course it’s been on my mind,’’ Burns said. “This is personal, but I’ve been working on my relationship with God. I left it in his hands. I just did everything I could in my power to be on this field with my teammates. I feel if you live the right way, good things will happen to you.’’

At this point let the guy hold out.  Fine him 50K per day per the CBA, he will owe use a couple million in fines, not earn any of his 2023 salary, lose an accrued season, and be back where he started next year, still owing us a season under his rookie deal.  Ask LeVeon Bell how such a move works out?

I really hope the FO stays pat. They know his stats and what his weaknesses are. They know he isn’t worth Bosa money. I hope Burns comes to his senses.

Different conversations, same exact comparisons. Burns vs other Edge players. Why are there different standards? And why should Burns get 10M/yr more? That 9 month age gap?

Oh to add for someone who said that Burns hasn't said anything publicly... he did back in June.

He has publicly stated that he expects to be one of the highest paid edge rushers in the NFL. So yea, Myles Garret, Nick Bosa money is what he wants.

Dude has an inflated opinion of himself. Anyone who watches him play knows he is no where near the caliber of those players.

I stated stats earlier to support paying burns. Even if you use last season. Highsmith had more sacks and ff but burns had more qb pressures, more qb hurries,  the same amount of tackles, and more tfl.

Burns was top ten in sacks, tackles, tackles for loss, top 5 in qb hurries and qb pressures last season among edge defenders.

Like I said earlier this off-season, it's going to take at least 27m a season to sign him long term. Once Nick Bosa signs that number is gonna go up to 29-30m because Bosa wants 34-35m a season.

Good lord, that is WAY too much for him. As of right now I would try to trade him. See if we can get a first round pick back.

Bosa isn’t a comparable player.  And neither should his contract.

Burns is comparable with pass rushing specialist. And that market has already been set by the pass rushing specialist
