DeAngelo Williams

IMO you have to evaluate running back in a different way than every other position. It is pretty much a fact that at 30, RBs start to go down hill. I think it'll happen around 31 or 32 for Deangelo. He doesn't take a lot of punishment and IMO he is one of the smartest runners in the NFL. So I think he could be one of the top 3 or 4 backs in the game for the next 5 years (he'll be 27 by next season).

Our running game is the best thing going for us...so we might as well keep the OL and the RBs together for as long as possible.

Good running backs rarely retire with the teams that drafted them. Because they go downhill when they hit the 30-wall and then ask to be traded or get cut. That being said, if we can keep DeAngelo through his next maybe 4 year contract, I will be thoroughly satisfied.

I want us to keep him until he retires, same with Stewart. More likely though, Stewart stays the course.

On a side note, at a recent party a friend and I came to refer to ourselves as DWill and Stewart because he was knocking down beers with speed and I was the power back, fighting through the trenches of better judgment with vodka.

If I am the Panthers I try to lock him up.

If I am DW I play out my contract and sign with a contender. Dude is one of the best backs in the league and wasting away in Charlotte.

The only thing we have going for us in regards to DeAngelo staying or leaving is he seems to be, from everything I've seen/heard/read, a pretty happy-go-lucky guy that's not overly concerned with huge contracts. We would offer him a contract comparable to any other team, and in our system and philosophy he has the potential to be a 1,500 yard back for the foreseeable future. That's not necessarily a gimme on another team.

A lot of the NFL's top contenders are pass first teams, and that might not be extraordinarily appealing to Williams. Not to mention that although we look at CAR as a shitty team right now, the guys in the locker room could very well believe they are just a few peices away from being legit, so who knows?
