Put Caleb on UNC and there is no debate we win the ACC.

Caleb has proven he can play great in 2 conferences already.

I don't think UNC is beating Clemson even with prime Cam Newton. There's just an enormous gulf of talent. Caleb has proven he cal play great in two conferences where he's on the best roster in the conference. Big difference.

I'm not expecting us to be the favorites in the ACC, but I do expect us to be in the conversation for the ACC Championship.

Our defense sucks, but if Maye is truly the best QB in college football I'm expecting him to win us some games we aren't expected to win. Great QBs can overcome a lack of a good defense. We should have one of the best offenses in the ACC this year just because of Maye at QB.

The one thing I do respect about Maye is his loyalty. Most thought he would leave for a bigger program. He's Carolina through n through.

Take Howell and Maye off of the last two UNC rosters and we're sub-.500. We have been winning games we shouldn't be expected to win. Take Howell/Maye and Downs off of the last two rosters and it probably looks Bunting era bad.

We can agree to disagree on this one. I'm a UNC diehard, but I'm fair minded. Most have Caleb as the top QB in the Nation.

In most drafts Maye would be the best QB. Caleb is just more talented imo.

If I was betting on who will have the best year in college football I'd bet on Caleb. But that doesn't mean he's the most talented, I think he's on the better offensive roster.

I mean, you are in the conversation.  I think you should be in the ACC Championship.  But if you think Clemson and Florida St are both favored to win over UNC.....how high can someone nationally rank a team viewed as the 3rd best in the ACC?  I mean, the discussion is their current national ranking?

If the UNC D improves? Well, I think people would adjust the rankings/odds as the season goes on.  But it's tough to ignore how bad that D was.  And I think that how bad D is, is more costly to UNC over Southern Cali.  UNC plays more teams that play defense.  So their O faces more resistance.  And that bad D becomes a bigger liability in conference play than it does for USC.

UNC has had elite offenses and elite defenses but it feels like a law of the universe that when we have an elite O or D it has to be paired with an all-time atrocious unit on the other side of the ball. We could really do some damage with just a middle of the pack average defense.

Notice how you keep making excuses for Maye.

I'm just saying Caleb is simply a better QB.

Their play will speak for itself. I hope Maye proves me wrong.

I doubt you could find a single college football analyst or NFL scout who would try to argue there's more offensive talent on the UNC roster. So is that "making excuses" or is it just being honest and realistic?

You make good points. I just thought we would have been ranked a little higher with one of the top players in college football.

USC is ranked a top 10 team even with a bad defense.

Oh I don't doubt that. I'm just not going to use that as an excuse.

Cam won a MVP with pretty much nothing at WR. Some QBs don't need much around them to succeed.

Cam was a generational talent. I don't think Maye is on that level. He didn't react well last year when the staff made him dial it back with the running. His play really took a down turn. He needs to stop with the Superman diving but the staff needs to turn him loose and just let him go. Howell did better tailoring his play to what he was told to do. Hell, most UNC fans had no idea he could run until his final college season because the coaches specifically told him not to run prior to that because they didn't trust the depth behind him.

You don't think Maye is a generational talent?

Most people said Caleb and Maye both would have been #1 picks if they came out last year.

I think both are better prospects than Bryce Young.

I think they're both better prospects than Young but that doesn't make them generational talents.

Trevor was a #1 overall.  I think he was a better prospect than Young too.  But he isn't a generational talent.  At least how I define it.
