We’ll Frank had a winning record, but who cares about facts these days

And did that while having to navigate the sudden retirement of Luck and working with scraps from the QB market.

he did that, look what Rhule did in the same time frame.

There is no comparing Reich’s past to Wilks past, night and day.

Look, I’m not knocking what Wilks did for us, I just don’t see him as a good HC in today’s NFL.

On top of that, the sentiment that "nobody said frank didn't deserve the job" has the attention span of a goldfish.  TONS of people were HIGHLY critical of Reichs hiring.  I remember because I'm older than 6 months old.

So how do we judge Wilks if he only gets 1 opportunity?

I think what works against Wilks the most is what he represents.  He is an old school defensive HC.  If every job was vacant today and everything even, most teams aren’t eyeing that.   It naturally limits opportunity.

If I owned a team I would prefer offense.  And if I wanted old school.  I’d go the Frank route.  Because he at least is offensive.   But my preference would be young and offensive.

Now if Belichick or Tomlin happened to be interested? I’d be willing to put aside my preference.  But they got crazy resumes.

Kind of hard to have a great offense when Sam Darnold is your QB.

A lot of times it comes down to your QB. You can't expect a lot of wins when your QB is bottom tier. But to say he doesn't deserve another HC job because of his Arizona stint is just flat out unfair.

Anybody with half of a brain cell could tell that the situation in Arizona was fuged for Wilks from the beginning. Hard to hold his time there against him. His time here last season, if anything, is a much more accurate representation of what he can accomplish.

Granted, that vision might be a bit dated given the offense. But Hell, if Rivera can be x2 COTY then Wilks could at least put together a competent 3 - 5 year stretch as a head coach somewhere.

Not at all surprised the Cardinals are a complete dumpster fire of an organization. Up until recently we haven't had much room to judge though. And we're still waiting to see if we've turned the corner. As for Wilks no other team interviewed him for their head coaching vacancy. You could argue it was a coordinated effort to keep him out based on his pending legal efforts toward the league. But even though it's bullshit and I think the owners are mostly scumbags you have to acknowledge the likelihood that him airing this dirty laundry out means he will probably never get another look.

Anywho for anyone who is passionate about this discussion I'm sure you can find some folks willing to engage on the 49ers message boards. Since he coaches for them now and all.

Should have been our HC. That's a story for another day.

All love for Wilks. That guy made me interested in Panthers football again. I swear I was losing interest under Rhule.

Should have been. Everyone here wanted an offensive coach and that's what they got, including Tepper. Still not sold on Reich being the guy.

Last season my man.

If we judging Wilks on his last stint, im just doing the same for Frank.

Understand now?

I understand what you are typing, but not why you would think like that. Picking just one year out if a five year period to try to prove some kind of point is really weird.

A five year offensive HC will always be preferred in this league over a somewhat unknown conservative defensive coach. I think Wilks is a great man and I hope he gets a chance eventually, but this is an odd comparison.
