Future at LG

Too soon to tell. With preseason you never know of a guy is going against a starter or backup (unless you watch every play for that one spot). Corbett hasn’t played at all so I’d think he’s a few weeks out at a minimum. Zavala will be RG (likely) so when the real games start they’ll have a better idea if he’s playing so well that either Corbett slides into LG, which I don’t know if he’s played much) or Corbett slides into RG and BC stays left.

One thing to remember is that with Iky’s play being pretty spotty, the coaches may not want to throw a rookie next to Iky because that’s a recipe for a missed assignment huge hit on Young.

Way too early but he has looked good so far. Would be great if he locks down LG this year. If so I’d go guard with our 2nd next year and get Corbets replacement in the building and have line locked up for the next 3-5 years.

Or with Zavala and BC you already have Corbetts replacement and the G position locked up for the next 3-5.

It’s too early to tell. We will have an answer by the end of this season. BC played very well as a rookie under Rhule playing every position but what he should have. He had mixed results year 2 in a full time position and was getting better week by week last season. This year feels like a make or break season for him long term role with the team

I hope the plan is for Zavala to get some reps and cut his NFL teeth at RG until Corbett is back. Then, move over to his former running mate and secure Bryce's blindside. Feel like the chemistry between Zavala and Ickey can only help Ickey, long-term too to have a familar face beside him.

I'd prefer BC to be a swing guy or rotate in.

Talking about chemistry with Ickey. I would think he and BC playing all last season next to each other and then the entirety of training camp together has got to count for some amount of chemistry.

Agreed. College chemistry is nice but Zavalabis a rookie who hasn’t gotten a lot of reps due to a preseason injury and Iky’s looked a lot like a rookie so far in the preseason games. Pairing them could make for a couple disastrous plays so I’d think the coaches might keep BC their until they know Zavala is ready when Corbett is back.

Should also add that a positive of moving him to the left is he'll be lining up next to a guy he's already got great chemistry with.

Do they though?

I know this keeps getting brought up, about how they already have this connection on the field due to playing in college together.  But I think they only played something like 5 or 6 games together as Zavala was hurt that season I believe and missed half of it.

Yes, it's more than not having any familiarity, but I'm not sure 6 games in college 2 years ago really means much at this point.

    • I don't mean to make this a mock draft thread particularly,  but every time I do a mock I have been investigating the talent that goes off the board between picks 8 and our low 2nd rounder pick 57. There is a gargantuan amount of talent still left on the board in the top half of the 2nd round every time I do one. Losing our original 2nd round pick to the Bears as the last pick of the Bryce trade stings badly .  I'm particularly looking at elite players like Carson Schwesinger (LB), Luther Burden (WR), Matthew Golden (WR), Maxwell Hairston (CB) , Nick Scourton , Landon Jackson, Donavan Ezeraku (all DEs/OLBs) . The sweet spot in this draft really feels like pick 15 to 40 - ish. This is why the Bears should be making bank with this draft. I don't know how realistic a trade down is from 8, but if we could pick up any teams higher 2nd rounder and still grab their 1st? We'd be cooking with gas man.  Say for example we get Tet McMillan at pick 8, if you wait all the way to 57 you stand the chance of not getting any impact pass rushers in this draft. And I don't think this team can afford that.  I'd personally love for them to take a break from drafting wrs in R1 or R2 (i think we've taken one in the top 2 rounds in the majority of the past few years), and stick to repairing the nfls worse defense in history (in terms of total points against iirc, or was it yards? Also included my most recent mock as an example . Don't put too much into the  late round selections lol
    • How is this supposed to work on college? How are you supposed to recruit with a one year interim coach?
    • You must have researched him to know this--I said I would research him.  And there are trades, etc. during the draft--you really need to know the full board.
