Sorry but I’m not. Most of the people that are disagreeing with me will be the first ones to trash the OL protection once we have a few injuries. Then all you will hear is “why do we have this guy or that guy” blah blah blah. 
 

We were lucky last year and didn’t lose any until the final game. Imagine we lose one guy for the season (let’s say Moton). And a few games in we lose Christensen to his ankle again. These “developmental” guys are protecting your QB. Or imagine we have multiple starters out in years past.
 

If he’s developmental put his ass on the practice squad.

Ekwonu already seems like he'll be solid to great somewhere on the line. If just 2 of the other 4 young guys develop in this ideal scenario for them, we're in great shape.

This is the first time Ekwonu has played in the spread. When there were spread concepts early in the season last year he struggled. He doesn’t have Ben McAdoo and Steve Wilks to help him out by running the ball 35 times per game.

The offense seems fairly well set, it's the defense where some moves may be made.

If he struggles at LT in the spread as you suggest, do you believe he can be successful at guard?

Absolutely. I think that’s where he belongs. If Frank ran more sets  21 personnel and had more of a vertical run scheme I think he would be fine at LT. But asking him to play LT when you stay in 11, 12, 13 personnel is out of his wheelhouse I believe.

As Richard the Spaniard said, if he ends up blocking then something catastrophic has happened resulting in somebody, and most likely several somebodies, going to IR. Opening up spots that they would probably fill with vets like, oh I don’t know, maybe Cam Erving because he ain’t going nowhere. Keep the youngster and develop.

This is my concern with Ekwonu. I'm not certain he's a LT in the scheme that we want to run.

There have been successful players from the small schools, yes. But what is the average compared to the larger conferences- significantly less.

Yes power conference D1 schools produce the most players. The fact that there are plenty of examples of small school players succeeding despite a much smaller sample size shows that you shouldn’t write them off. You really need to pick a better hill to die on.

So you would rather have Erving and Jordan still on this roster as depth? That was our other option at this current time.

I would pulled some random dude off the street before I would bring those 2 back.

There's nothing wrong with our oline. The worry about Ickey is way overblown. Everyone seems to forget that we did not run our offense in the preseason.

I'd rather have Jalen Reagor on the bottom of the depth chart than some these TEs.   Disappointment so far, but super young and only been on teams with really strong WR talent ahead of him.

Reich and Campen seem very high on Icky. He is still pretty raw as a pass protector, but he went like 9 weeks without giving up a sack last year and some of that was before Wilks took over.

I agree.  I think if you reordered things and start with Bryce Young.  A lot of the guys we have wouldn't be guys we would ideally want.  Icky seems like he belongs on John Fox team.  Running at dudes and going play action off it.  Sort like where he made his progress at last season.  We knew coming in he leaned toward being a run blocker.  And that just isn't the scheme you want in the end for Bryce Young.  You want to set him back in shotgun and let him pick on a D.
