Chris Simms on Bryce Young

He's always been leery on Bryce because of his size. He hasn't been shy about it, this is just boring filler offseason content for now. I enjoy listening to some of his takes on the NFL when the season starts. Just never consume any of his content when he's paired with Florio.

It's why I still think AR was the guy we should've taken because his physical traits and abilities will allow him to win games while he figures out the passing aspect - I take that guy 10 times out of 10 over any other rotation when picking a QB, and I've said that for years, not just in regards to Bryce.

But again, I withhold my judgement and hope for the best.  I really hope Reich, McCown, and Fitt didn't outsmart themselves with this pick.  Hoping for the best, but his limitations are obvious and become even more glaring if the OL plays like ass.  He needs everyone around him to play well to excel, while other QBs that were available to us do not.

and his lack of passing abilities will allow him to lose games

I'm sticking with my Simms stance I took back during the Fields draft.  Simms and media folks just looking for clicks.  That draft was always Trevor and then Fields....it was the consensus for 2 straight years. Then suddenly after all the football had been played, Fields got trashed and the folks suddenly lifted Lance and Wilson ahead of him.  And yet, here we are.  With it being Trevor and then Field in that class.

Simms has bad takes.  Probably intentional too.  His job is clicks/views now.  And calling it straight doesn't really do that.  In any realm of media.

AR does have the physical traits to overcome deficiencies in an offense.  Cam had them coming out the ears.  With Bryce, you flat out our going to need the OL play to really take advantage of what he does well.

I think you are REALLY underestimating Young's ability to navigate the pocket, get out of trouble, and push the ball downfield.

This is something he has done very well throughout his college career. I mean, he literally just showcased that ability the other day on the misfire to Theilen. That was special.

The more I listen to Simms, the more I realize he’s a bumbling idiot. He never, ever says anything of substance. He just mumbles something in agreement with Florio.

I don’t watch/listen when he sits with Florio. I just get the general vibe that Florio really enjoys hearing himself talk, and he dominates conversations.

I also don’t like his face.

That doesn’t make me right. Doesn’t make the way I feel right. But that’s how I be feeling.

AR and Cam are not the same. I repeat...AR and Cam are not the same.

No, it's that everything he says about prospects at the QB position ends up being incorrect...that's why I think he is a hack.

He's just like many other analysts, he has some hits and misses. He doesn't always go with the consensus.

2017 he said Mahomes could be special and touted both of him and Watson over Trubisky

2018 he had Lamar and Josh Allen as the top two ahead of Baker, Darnold, and Rosen

2020 he had Burrow and Herbert as the top two ahead of Tua

I was fine with Bryce, Stroud, or Richardson. I was most intrigued by Richardson though. Maybe it's just because of the success we had with Cam. I don't know. I could just most easily translate his talent to the NFL. With Bryce you're HEAVILY relying on him being the smartest guy on the field. Hopefully he is.
