Agreed.  He could be 6-4 and 240 of pure muscle, and I would have many of the same concerns.  We have a lot invested in him (mostly expectations for the future), and I don't want to watch that go down the drain because he is subjected to so many hits that an Abrams tank would not be able to survive it.

An LOL from conversations with others:

Them: How big is Bryce?
Me: Around 5' 10", probably 120 lbs [laughs]
T: No way, he's gotta be 6' 2".  [ checks wikipedia ] holy cow, he is 5' 10".  Maybe 5' 11" with pads on.
Me: The jokers online say he'll need a step stool to see over the center
T: So what do you figure, the Panthers tried to win a super bowl with a #1 draft pick in Cam who was a pretty imposing player on the field... and they said, well, that didn't work so let's try the exact opposite player size with your next #1 pick?

Joking aside, Newton's height was definitely an advantage. It's like if you're trying to find somebody in a crowded room, standing on a chair makes it easier.

Young won't be able to take a chair out on the field, but nobody doubts he's got the brains to run the system and ideally make the most out of his talent.

If you give Bryce the slightest amout of time he will pick a defense apart. That's his MO. Protect him and good things will happen.  It's that simple.

Exactly this. He's going to find the open guy and deliver the ball 90% of the time when he is protected. You can just see it in him.

Unfortunately for us, what we've put around him so far in preseason has been pure chaos.

Yeah that was my concern about both Young and Stroud for a few years. Well discussed on this forum.

It doesn’t mean they won’t be great, or that they don’t have the talent, but the question is how much of their team winning was a result of them being QB? Physically, sure, but also intangible things like mentality, leadership, etc.

Nearly unanswerable though.

I feel that Young can do it, but I can’t back that up in any tangible way.

This is the ultimate team sport imo, and that’s why it’s so beautiful when something like 2015 happens when the whole team is just gelled and firing on all cylinders. It’s rare.

Its never all on the QB, or one player, as much as we pretend it is at times.

Homerism aside, I still gotta say Cam's Auburn season was probably the last time I've seen a qb step in and absolutely dominate with an average to below average supporting cast. Burrow had a nice season but he had NFL ready talent everywhere on the team. We may never see that again in the current era. Iirc, finished college undefeated at Auburn w/ the Heisman trophy and a national championship. Then came to Carolina and later led us to a 15-1 season w/ an MVP designation and a Superbowl appearance.

I put Young in the same category (Burrow). To be clear.. I originally wanted Stroud (after watching both players vs Georgia) but Young has grown on me the last few months. I'm expecting alot of tough weeks but the next 3-4 years look extremely optimistic if he can stay protected and he develops anywhere close to his full potential...

The only question I have at this point is whether he can deliver the deep ball accurately at this level. Will he have enough time to? ...I'd say his floor is Teddy Bridgewater ...but his ceiling is Brees. But ay, wtf do I know... all opinion
