Looking at the current Denver depth chart they don't have a DT listed above 320lbs.  Their starter is right at 305lbs.  Maybe it really isn't a need in this defense to have a wide body there.  I saw a few 2-5-2-2 looks on the field during the game.  We have Burns and YGM who have played with their hand in the dirt before.  You squeeze the big guys (Tuttle/Brown/Williams) in closer on the line and it closes up the middle allowing Frankie and Shaq a little space to move around.  You still have Burns to rush, YGM/DJJ to hold an edge and Chinn as the 5th LB.  It actually operates more like a 4-3 than the traditional 3-4.

Maybe I'm wrong.... just thinking out loud here.

Deshawn was their NT in 2020 and 2021 and he is 295.

Evero runs 5-1/Penny Fronts. Since the front 3 are flanked by a consistent EDGE and a counterpart rotation, it allows for multiple disguises the more versatile the edge and NB are. Chinn is going to be operating in box near Shaq and Luvu will be moving around off and on ball.

It’s pretty cool with our personnel but it’s not a plain 3-4 system by any means. He’s not a mirror of Fangio either. Evero has his own wrinkles with gap assignments. I’m in the boat of not that worried here.

Solid example (against us):

Reich isn’t wrong, both Raequan Williams and Nick Thurman have looked better than McCall. Hell, I can even point to specific plays that LaBryan Ray and Taylor Stallworth have made. I can’t do the same for McCall.

Fans should be excited about this because it shows that there is a new mantra. It’s not about what you have done, it’s about what you are doing.

Raequan took the starting job going before the Giants game. They only cut McCall early to give him the chance to get on another team.

An NT in a 3-4 has to hold his own against 2 blockers and clog the middle. Collapsing the pocket is desirable but foremost he has to stop the run.  If he doesn't fit our system then he clearly didn't do that. So why keep him around? The bigger question is why the article and hype only to cut him a week or so later. Must be keeping personnel issues close to the vest.

Tuttle and Deshawn also can play NT along with Raequan and Thurman. I dont get how some reporters say we have no one. Deshawn started for the Broncos for 2 years at NT ffs.

They have not put any effort in to learning about the gap and a half scheme that Evero comes from and has implemented.

It's not the traditional 3-4.  The coaches say it, the info out their on gsp and a half explains it thoroughly, and the rosters that implement it reflect it.

The media is lazy and doesn't care to educate themselves

    • Best to see Icky in the position we drafted him in to see if he continues making progress. All signs point to Canales/Morgan staying on board and so decisions on whether to move him elsewhere on the line will probably be done during the offseason. Personally, I'm more concerned about a more long-term answer at safety and Moton's spot. Love the guy but he's a FA after 2026 and he'll be 32 by then. Kinda has that sign of having to let a player walk one year too early.
    • All I am saying is IMO if we were going to rework or extend his deal I think it would have happened by now.   Just feels like they are going to bite the bullet and let it run its course
    • I mean me speaking honestly per normal- RT is not even on my radar for needing fixing....it sorta should be, but I feel its around 20s in "hey this need attention". Motown could have another 5 years of solid play leftd in his body and mind. I know something needs to done with his contract, its had money pushed back into the late years like three times now. He got like a 38 million cap number cause rhule, frittterererer and this past season Dan deferred money.  I think he's been "healthy" for most of his career and seems to work hard at being able to play. He's a good player to have on the team. I got no idea how this plays out.   We need to have friendly bet about Christs next contract- I say he gets 8million per and 40% guaranteed. If he gets below that, you are the true kungfu master- deal?
