That was a by product of a crap division.  We aren't the only team that on paper got better

The division is still crap.

Only thing changed is the team who won the division got worse in Tampa Bay losing Brady for Baker.

We were 1 game away from making the playoffs with Steve Wilks. If we hired an upgrade at HC im expecting to get better not worst.

But that season was its own thing.  And Steve Wilks didn’t actually have us playing good football.  It just wasn’t Matt Rhule,  We weren’t a good team.  It was a messed up season full of bad opponents  where you could come compete in a game despite literally not passing to the extent it looked like he was trying to sabotage the team (first game) to winning with your starting QB finishing with 40 pass yards and putting up 10 points (last game)

and we are rebuilding.  Traded away all our offensive stars.  We have a rookie QB.  Brand new offense.  Brand new defense.  Brand new staff.  That’s a rebuild.  Regardless what Frank says.

This board has this weird beef with Wilks I just don't understand.

Wilks was the talk of the NFL how he turned our season around. We went from playing for nothing to having a legit chance to make the playoffs. People please stop trying to act like Wilks had no impact on this team.

The players freaking loved Wilks.

We will have a winning record this year.

The OL we saw in preseason hame 1 won't be what we see the rest of the year. They will be better. Last year was their floor. Saturday was a fluke.

This is not a repeat of 2011. More likely to be a repeat of 2013.

We don't have a rookie HC who will take a couple years to figure stuff out  and we have a rookie QB that doesn't act iike or think like or play like a rookie.

And the division is legit up for grabs and the conference has few legit contenders. We have just as much a shot as anyone else at winning the division and getting into the playoffs.

But you can’t base everything on last years record.   It will be a new season.  Every team and season is different.

The 2011 squad was significantly better on O around the QB than what we have this year.  Yet you paint us a better positioned.   And Cam brought insane offensive volume.

winning is hard for rookies. For teams with new coaches and all new schemes.

and how are the Saints and Falcons worse?

Yeah, and we were also in one of (if not THE best at the time) divisions in football in 2011. Atlanta had 13 wins that last year, New Orleans had 11, and the Bucs had 10 wins the previous year before 2011. Not to mention we had THE hardest schedule going into 2011 as well. Neither of those apply this year. So yes, we are definitely positioned better than 2011.

Saints and Falcons got marginally better at best. Bucs got SUBSTANTIALLY worse, so overall it's a push. Still a bad division.

This is pretty much how I feel.

Not sure why people are expecting us to be worst than last year. We upgraded the QB position improved the coaching staff and have a legit defense.

Brady is gone.

Carr/Mayfield/Ridder is the competition. Our defense should feast on these QB's. If Bryce lives up to the hype then we should have more than enough on offense/defense/coaching. It's a new era Rhule is no longer here people!

Believe!

Reich is not an upgrade from Willks - they're both average, Rivera-esque coaches that will go up on down in any given year. Reich's staff appears better than Rhule's/what Wilks had to work with. We'll see if that makes a difference.

The opposing QB won't matter much, if the team can just run it down your throat. Our D was average last year. Look average at the moment as well.

On top of that. Bryce may be an upgrade, BUT  he is still rookie. His inexperience will show at times. Especially if he has no protection.

Anybody who thought we were playoff contenders, with a rookie QB. A new coach. A new O scheme. A new D scheme. Wasn't thinking logically.

With Bryce Young who if played 4Q yesterday would have left BoA on a stretcher, and the Colts castoff HC

If riddler can just be average with those weapons then they will be tough. No 2 ways around it

Sorry but gonna have to strongly disagree here. We’re coming off a 7 win season not a 2 win season, and our 2 biggest weaknesses we’re coaching and QB both of which we upgraded significantly. In this division I think anything short of a playoff appearance is a disappointment.

The performance of our offensive line will determine the ceiling of this team.

Agree to disagree. Wilks would have just been another Rivera. Reich has a chance to be the best coach we ever had. Colts were a dumpster fire and a meddling owner didn’t help.

In the NFL in 2023 you need a head coach that is a tactician like mcvay, Shanny,, Reid etc to out scheme your opponent.  A leader of men type coach a la ron or Wilks is just trying to get the players emotional for games.  That doesn't work long term.
