Hey guys, it's 2011 not 2015.

All fine and good, but you have to realize that personnel changes, experience changes, the schedule changes, and other teams don't stand still.

If you look top to bottom, most people outside of Panthers land will likely say that the Saints are the one's to beat in the NFCS this season. They will likely also tell you that only one team out of the NFCS is making the playoffs.

This is just not true.

I have seen multiple Nat'l people picking us to win this division including Colin Cowherd and Dan Orlovsky from ESPN.

We improved just like everyone else. No excuses why we shouldn't be in contention to win this division.

Vegas got

Saints 9.5

Falcons 8.5

Panthers 7.5

Bucs 6.5

and that’s about as rational as it gets.  I mean, you can find a TV personality making a case for every team

I get it. We lose one preseason game and automatically it’s going to be a losing season. Good God, is that all it takes for you people to dump on your team???

My take was the exact same before Saturday.  Saturday’s game didn’t create the expectation for the year.

Trading away our stud playmakers for the draft, starting a rookie QB, new HC, new O, new D and being in year one of a rebuild created it.

and I’m excited.  Like OP says, it’s 2011.

I feel like this staff and roster as a whole are better than 2011, maybe I’m wrong but this year feels different.

Coaching is a push at best IMO, with less overall total years of experience in respective positions with this staff and Rivera and McD both being highly successful as coordinators (I give the nod to 2011). Carolina had a little more offensive talent in 2011 (Cam, Smith, Olsen, Shockey, Double Trouble, Gross/Wharton/Kalil), and this year's defense has more talent overall since both Beason and TD were out for the year.

Really pretty equivalent overall.

Two sides of a coin. We have many good pieces, and we have a lot of questions.  IMO it could go either way.  We were 7-10 last season with one of the worst QB rooms in the NFL and still were sniffing the playoffs in a lousy division.

I think it all falls on the rookie QB.  If he has a year like most rookies do, we'll be picking near the top of the draft or I should say Chicago will be.

However, If he somehow puts himself into the rookie of the year conversation than anything is possible.  I think the defense will be as advertised and keep us in many games.  Young pulls a couple games out for us we can win the division and make the playoffs.

This is definitely a pessimistic vs optimistic Thread.

Have to echo what others have said. It's a team coming off a 7-10 record which could've easily been 9-8 with how close the losses were at the falcons and giants. Granted rookie QBs struggle but not many come into a team with a solid foundation. This team should absolutely be in with a shot at making the play-offs.

"Stud playmakers" did you mean stud playmaker? We damn near got a full draft for McCaffrey. So I'm cool with it. Plus, that albatross of a contract is off the books.

CMC and DJ Moore.  That's 2.

and I'm cool with it because we wanted to rebuild.  Draft a rookie QB.  Build something new.   New HC.  New O.  New D.  You know the whole rebuild that when acknowledged some are freaking out claiming we somehow are in win now playoff or bust mode.

It's not a complete rebuild when your defense was intact, the whole O-Line was intact.

This team won 7 games with a make shift coaching staff, the worst passing offense in the NFL............but because we have a better coaching staff, a better QB, we're supposed to be the same or worse? Enlighten me how that makes any sense?

    • For the silly people that worship her it will be that.  The Coleman 'legend' thing, they did that with another fairly average player that was here and I sort of mocked or questioned the 'legend' status. Instantly caught crap for insulting someone's favorite Panther. So okay, Kurt Coleman is a Legend.
    • You allow him to compete--you all are talking as if I am proposing making him the starter. Give him a new coach, new weapons, good OL, etc. and see what happens. You are saying, "Well Damn.  It did not work for 3 guys..."  Right now, our C is injured, we lost our top 2 WRs.  Better question:  If you need a QB, Why would you not take a chance on bringing in a QB who was a former first rounder, a good arm, intelligence, mobility, youth, etc.  and see how he does out of NY--with a better OL, better running game, better receivers.  I am not saying give him a 10-year contract, I am saying give him a chance. You act like there is no improvement on offense here--it was a 2 year process, and next year is year 2.  To me, how can you sit there with Bryce and an opportunity to sign a veteran QB on the cheap comes available and you say--"Not us. We're good.  We are waiting for Patrick Mahommes."  Jone's problem is obviously mental--and he has little support.  Why is this so frigging hard to comprehend.  It is called "bottom fishing" and it is better than sitting in the boat.
    • I think we're going to fall from behind quite early and be forced to abandon the run game.  3 rushes -2 yards 1 catch -10 yards
