1) You are the only that said anything about this "plan". Go ahead and show me where someone said Jake is great because he just throws up balls. Someone said that Jake and Smitty work on those throws because that IS TRUE OMG!!!!

Jeeze, I dunno....I'd say working on throwing up rainbows when Smitty is covered sounds sorta like a plan (or at least part of one). If they're working on it then it's pretty safe to say it's part of the gameplan.

2) You were stirring the pot from the start. Nobody "got on your nerve"

Really? You should probably go back and read the thread then...quite a few comments that I took to mean that Jake knew exactly what he was doing.

Don't be deluded yourself. Just because you wrote a long post, it doesn't make anything you wrote true.

what? hehe...dang, what a point! you sound like the guy who made the "better QB" crack.

No one disagrees that JD throws em up hoping Smitty (or Moose or whoever) will come down with it....but they accept it, while it worries me. Got a problem with that? Tough sh*t...it's my opinion. You have yours, which is cool, allow me to have mine. And don't worry, there's plenty of room in Jake's jock for ya.

Smitty has bailed out Jake with his throws his whole career. Today was a prime example. He has all day to throw yet throws ducks to Smith twice while Smith makes the spectacular circus catch. Smith has'nt been the only one. Moose was the one doing it in 2004. Whats lame is the nut huggers coming up with statements out their ass like "what other QB would have the guts to trow into double coverage" or "cause you're a much better QB" other asinine bullsh*t 'cause they can't stand even the slightest bit of criticism of Jake when its the truth....f*cking idiot.

Maybe you've never heard of the end justifies the means, but guess what dipshit, it does.

Jake threw that ball to Smith seeing as he's made that EXACT same catch THREE TIMES in a row against the Saints, one last time we met, and twice in today's game. If you think in the situation the game was in, there was anyone else open, guess again, because the Saints knew we weren't going to run the ball, so all they had to do was go to quarter defense cover 2. That play was gonna go to Steve Smith NO MATTER WHAT the coverage.

You just want the prototypical QB like a Matt Ryan or a Drew Brees, that's why you look for everything you can to make Jake seem like less than he is. Did you forget that Jake won the first two games without Steve Smith? Did you forget how close that Rosario throw was to being picked off, but yet it won the game in the last second? You and your cronies think bashing the old QB is fashionable, when it is in fact show it is just showing how foolishly naive you are.

Smith and Jake work well together and they work on these things together. Smith even talks about practicing that exact play. The Greenbay play, Jake and Smith spoke of Jake telling Smith to keep running because they knew the coverage they would get. If you're going to hold it against a QB for trusting his WR, then God forbid any QB throws anything into coverage, because guess what, the great WRs make catches like that routinely in tight coverage.

Maybe you don't trust Smith to make that catch, but Jake does...and damn right we're glad he's our QB and not a yellow bellied moron like you.

That was amazing. Everyone was covered, Jake was about to get sacked....so what else....he just threw the ball up to Smitty....he was double covered...so what...he is Smitty....and Jake knows it.

It was amazing. It got us a home playoff game. Thank you Smitty....thank you Jake.

I agree. I can't believe Jake was taken down as soon he threw the ball to Smitty from where he was 10 yards behind Saints's field goal line. It was a big risk, but Smitty got it. Sometime you just have to take risk to go for it & hope someone get it. That why Jake is a gunslinger & a risk taker. Sometime risk taker can help you win games.

Jake knows exactly what he is doing. You can call it smitty bailing him out but the truth is that Jake is throwing the ball where he knows that his receiver can make a play on it. He knows that Smitty not only comes down with the ball most every time. But he also knows that if Smitty doesn't catch it neither will the other guys. So he isn't really risking that much. How many times does he not get the ball and it gets intercepted once he has his hands on the ball? Not many! Smitty is going to be double teamed in most critical situations like that. You decide. If you have to make a throw to a receiver in a critical situation and had Smitty down the middle with help over the top or do you go with Moose or Rosario or Hackett who will likely be single covered but aren't as sure handed. Maybe on first or second down you might. But by third down I am going to Smith if he is doubled covered no matter what. I have seen him make unbelievable catches. So has Jake. Truth is it is a highly successful low risk play. THe kind you take when the situation gets critical. ANd it is much better to underthrow it versus overthrowing it and giving him no chance.

Don't get your bashing at all. Any play that works 80% of the time will definitely be in my playbook. It would be crazy if it wasn't near the top.

Yep it's always icing vs cake.

The people who matter get it.

“I know it’s not pretty when Jake and I hook up, but the results are what counts,” Smith said.

(Jake) Him and I might be a little unorthodox in the way we do things, but I think we work well together and we’re just going to try to keep it going.”

Coach John Fox insisted Delhomme’s throw was more than just a veteran quarterback “chucking the ball” in the air and hoping for the best.

In his opinion, the pass was the result of years of work and timing developed between Delhomme and Smith, as well as a lot of other things going right, too.

"At the end of the day, it was a pretty good ball and an excellent catch, and those two guys have done that over time this season and in seasons past," Fox said. "I'm sure Drew Brees and his receivers have had situations like that over the course of the year. So has every quarterback-receiver combination. They do it pretty well."

Guess he "locked on to Smitty" too since Smitty was option #3 on that play.

Good article. It illustrates my point earlier. Jake didn't just chuck it up there. He read the defense and threw it where he knew Smith would be in single coverage. Who isn't going to throw it to Steve at that point?

And on TV it looks like the two guys were there all along since by the time they showed the pass, the second guy was over there when that wasn't true per this description. That's why it's hard to believe what you see on tv since you can't see the whole play unless the cameras choose to show it. And you never know what the QB was thinking or saw unless he says so so I lol when people say he doesn't or can't read defenses. A QB like Jake who is no athletic marvel wouldn't be in the NFL if he didn't have smarts.

LOL wow... steve smith is a playmaker. And like any playmaking receiver you throw the ball to him and let him make a play.

maybe it wasn't the best throw, but he gave smith a chance to make a play and it happened... would u rather jake take the sack?.. because that was the alternative.

Am i the biggest jake fan? no.. I like the guy but the fact that people are on his ass for trying to make a play for his team is unreal

This is JMO on "The Catch". This could be one of the biggest catches in Panthers history. Instead of being a 5 seed with nothing but road games in the playoffs it allowed us to kick a FG and obtain the second seed. Great play by Jake and Steve. It just boggles my mind when Jake catches poo for throwing the ball Smith's way with tight coverage. When these types of passes are thrown by other QB's with TALLER WR's (ie...Moss, Fitzgerald, Boldin, TO etc..) they're a fuging genius for doing it. But, not old Jake. He's just a lucky SOB and an average QB that shouldn't even be in the league. Jake uses Smitty's height to an advantage (5'9" that plays like 6'3") and he'd be crazy not too. Will Jake get caught with his hand in the cookie jar or going to the well once too often? Probably so but, it's part of our offense and as someone else said; It's successful about 80% of the time. I can live with those odds and the excitement it brings. So, set back and enjoy the ride......it's going to be a good one.

P.S. There's another play out there in sports history known as "The Catch". Where a QB in the last seconds of a game double pumps and then slings an off-balance, off his back foot throw that results in a finger tip catch by his receiver for a Touchdown. To the best of my recollection I can not remember anyone ever saying that Joe Montana just "Chucked it up there".

Jake gave us a chance to win the game by throwing the ball to smith instead of Jake taking a sack. Yeah it was a "chance" throw but JAKE knows that smith can make amazing catches. We all know that Jake makes some boneheaded plays and dumb throws from time to time, imagine if it was Carr back there? He would have ran back 20 yards and took a sack. I am so sick of all the hate on Jake when we WON the game and the fact that if it wasn't for Jake giving Steve a chance to catch the ball, we might not have been able to get down the field in time to make a field goal. Give it a rest, we are 12-4 with Jake and #2 seed in the playoff's.....enjoy. Oh BTW, Smith does deserve to be mentioned as the MVP, he is nothing short of amazing. :)
