Who were your favorite Panthers preseason warriors (who did nothing in the regular season)

I was a freshman at App State the year we won our first FCS (then I-AA) national title with Richie Williams, and then the next year I think Trey Elder got one start with Armanti taking over permanently after that.  Every time he had the ball in his hands it felt like you were about to see something unbelievable.

Buuuut then he got to the NFL, where everybody is like that.  And most of them played against way better college competition than he did.  Those were long odds not even considering he was playing a new position.

My best friend in HS lived down the hall from Armanti at Applachian one year, but I don't remember which. Trey Elder played against us my sophomore year and I remember he was a good player.

I looked it up and it was in fact Jeremy Leman I was thinking of.  My memory was a little off though as he was a Panther in 2009 and then bounced around the league for a few years.  As far as I can tell, though, he never compiled an NFL stat.

I remember when we drafted Mayo and you're right, he actually got a fair amount of snaps here.  He's still in the league too.  Was Boulware the guy who was like "yeah at the bottom of the pile I like to shove my finger in dudes' asses" or was that someone else.  If that was him, that's the only thing I remember about him.

Yep that was boulwares specialty at Clemson

I forget the guy's name but he was a middle linebacker with a blonde mullet in the 2010s.  Classic "sneaky athletic gym rat great kid from a great family nonstop motor" type player who was just all over the field.  I don't think he ever played a snap in a regular season game.

Mayo?

I'm late replying to this but I tried that in a small town in the gameday thread and caught a suspension.

I saw him around campus routinely, he was kind of a small dude for a football player and didn't really stick out much.  Really low key and wasn't big on drawing attention to himself.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
