Only if the Passing game and Dline improve. That would mean paying out some big money for a free agent QB since its unlikely that a rookie QB is going to be a significant improvment.

Not that I have given up on Moore, but even if he is the QB of the future, its going to be a year or two before we see it.

I dont see a reason why not.The def should be a lot better.Knowing fox we prob will draft a WR and sign a FA WR and QB.The only thing I hope fox cuts the dead weight and not have guys on this team because he is so loyal..guys like D.lewis

wouldn't it be nice to feel confident about next years potential record not because the schedule is easy but because you have a team that you feel good about gaing against anyone?

if you have to wait for the right circumstances and all the pieces fall just right in order to have a winning season, something is wrong.

Exactly and I feel like that has become acceptable among many fans.

But yes it is terribly wrong.

Amen....................

Whether he pays the additional $6 million or not, it would not have a direct impact on the worth of his investment.

Direct...no. Indirect? Yes. Anytime a sports franchise goes from successful to unsuccessful there is a drop in what an owner makes. After this year he is already going to get slammed in the amount he can charge for tickets. There just isn't going to be a demand to watch a team that is mediocre and does nothing in the offseason to fix it.

Not to mention we can forget about playing on sunday night or monday night next year. Those games are typically going to be sold out no matter how good your team is. We don't get that luxury next year.

He stands to make WAY MORE money by firing fox, paying the 6 million, and hiring Cowher than he does to keep Fox and not pay the 6 million. But like someone else said...this isn't enough money for JR to consider it a "business decision." He needs to think of this as a decision to make us a winning team year in and year out or not.

My final point (and best point IMO) is this...Fox and Hurney have made decisions to try to save their jobs in the short-term by trading first rounders, keeping Peppers no matter what it cost, and not risking bringing in a young QB to go through some growing pains. If we can't even succeed in the short term then what in the hell makes anyone think we can succeed in the long-term??

Let me just say there are alot of things I don't like about Fox and I do think Hurney has made mistakes. However letting them play out their contracts wouldn't be such a bad idea. For one I think Hurney is a good GM and cap master. He will find a way to resign the guys need and keep us under the cap. Obviously Delhomme was a desperation move that bit him in the ass but I think something will work out. As for Peppers who really knows, no one knows if he wants to be here or not. But we do know he is not worth 16 million or 20 million a season. I think Hurney will try to take what he can get for him or let him go if a new contract is not reached.

As for Fox. He's been figured out, if he stays next season he will have spice up his game plan or he will get fired mid season and may be out of HC opportunities. If there is a season to change Fox's philosophies about this game it is this one. The charisma and spark of this team has not melted down on him like this before. He will have to get back to being a hardass and letting the best players take the field. Loyalties and stubbornness will have to end. If he comes back I think things will change. The offense has been figured out it is not dynamic in the least bit, there are glaring problems at WR which were overly obvious all season because we didn't use the receiving options where we had the most talent (TE). And it didn't help that Delhomme often times does not see open receivers down field. The offense is going to have to utilize other attack philosophies other than the play action pass because:

1. Delhomme does not sell the fake at all, though I think Moore does a better job at it.

2. We run PA too much

3. As of this moment PA is totally dependent on 1 player being open (Steve Smith).

Basically Fox can't afford to stay the same if he comes back and at least Fox knows the team well enough to know its weaknesses and what we will need on draft day. Meeks will be back though I can't say the same for Davidson. He has been a good OC the past couple seasons but he could be a scape goat.

I dont know if Hurney is a "cap master" -- i just think of all the money tied up in these guys; Peppers, gamble, and Delhomme"...

Thats a SHITLOAD of money!!!!!

While it's true that if Fox is fired, JR will owe him about 5.5 million, the team could actually end up owing him much less. Most pundits seem to feel that Fox would quickly get another HC job once he hits the open market, and if that happens, then the Panthers will only owe him the difference between his new contract and what he was due here. So, with JR's potential payout being significantly reduced, I do not think money will be a deciding factor in whether or not Fox is let go. Nor do I think Fox will come back as a lame duck coach. Either he gets an extension (probaly no more than a year or two) or he will be gone.

If Fox, Hurney, and Delhomme stay...while we lose Peppers and another player like T.Davis (to free agency) or S.Smith (trade)...:mad5:

I think if we keep those two, we lose at least 25% of our fanbase right there. Richardson is a smart man...he knows he has to shake up things this offseason.

fox's competition for the 5 or 6 HC jobs that might open up will be holmgren, cowher, shannahan, schotty, billick, gruden (not buying that he is done and wouldn't find someway out of his contract).

also he'd be competing with the other fired coaches...possibly turner, fisher, phillips, lovie smith, zorn, cable, haley, kubiak, mangini....there are more than a couple "good" coaches in that group (and some real stinkers). still, a lot of solid competition.

he'll also be battling against the desire of the vast majority of teams to hire rookie coaches.

2009: 12 coaching changes, 10 went to rookies

2008: 7 coaching changes, all went to rookies

2007: 8 coaching changes, 6 went to rookies

point is...fox has a very slim chance of getting hired as an HC after leaving here. i don't care how good anyone thinks fox is, out of 27 HC changes in the past 3 years and only 4 going to retreads....he's looking at a very small group of teams that will hire a retread at all. then consider who his competition is among the retreads and potentially available retreads...honestly, he doesn't really stand out.

I think NY is going to be a good place for fox.the NYG DC and HC in waiting or the bills HC.
