The Panther's front office doesn't think winning year after year is important.

Sorry. No link but hear me out.

John Fox's worse record is 7-9. Not bad. Not great but not bad.

As we all know, your record determines your schedule the FOLLOWING year. Do great, chances are you play a tougher sked. You also matchup with similar teams who had similar results.

By going with an every other year approach you reduce the following:

Spending. The Panthers kinda distored their own spend thrift ways with Jake's near govt bailout contract and Pep being tagged(insert Tiger Woods joke here).

But they kept 21 of 22 on the roster. Why? All for 2010.

They trade "up" to avoid the 1st rd. Why? Cheaper 1st rder for...2010.

Now back to record. More than likely the Panthers will finish at best 7-9(umm, I'm ruling out winning out so I understand they "could) again, at worse 6-10.

I can't recall who they match up with next year but it will once again be a favorable sked.

The every other year approach also benefits gameplanning, scouting and front office wrangling. You build in a planning year similar to a teacher having a planning period during the school day.

Sure there is practice and training camp and laps and gatorade and press conferences and all the things teams are supposed to do.

I don't have an inside connection to confirm my observation or a sound bite or Fox on video saying this.

Of course anyone admiting this would be dropped like a three foot putt.

i think its more Fox's philosophy than Richardson.

Fox is loyal, and happy to do "what works". We have seen several times in Fox's tenure that he and Hurney did NOTHING to improve the team. Thats TWICE in 8 years that the 2 have done nothing to get this team better, which is RETARDED.

The last 2 seasons of 1st round picks show that the 2 are DESPERATE to do whatever they have to in the draft (including screw the next guy) win games.

oNCE YOU start trading away 1st round draft picks for any positions other than a QB it SCREAMS "WE ARE DESPERATE"

Stall, 7-9 is bad, its below average. I hold the "7-9 we just want to compete every 2-3 years" stuff on the ownership more so than Fox. This is something thats been happening ever since the Panthers have been in business NOT just under Fox's tenure. In fact, you could argue the only 2 things that are guaranteed in Pantherland are PSL dues at the end of a sh*tty season and 7-9 every other year. LOL.

Totally agree. That's why I said Panthers. Just using Fox since he is the current coach.

hardly.

schedule rotates year in and year out. the only team your record effects is the team you play in the off same conference division. for us this year, it was the difference between a loss to the vikings or a loss to the packers.

it's not a major determining factor.

Spending. The Panthers kinda distored their own spend thrift ways with Jake's near govt bailout contract and Pep being tagged(insert Tiger Woods joke here).

is this why in 2006 they broke the bank with kemo and hartwig after winning? because they were trying to save money?

But they kept 21 of 22 on the roster. Why? All for 2010.

this doesn't make any sense at all. if they were really preparing for 2010, they would have done whatever they could to load up on young talent and get them ready for the campaign. you have to be pretty stupid to think that after winning 12 games, a team brings back 21/22 players for two years down the road in an unknowable labor agreement.

They trade "up" to avoid the 1st rd. Why? Cheaper 1st rder for...2010.

they seemed more than willing to to draft first rounders prior to 2004, 2006, and 2007, their planned down years.

Now back to record. More than likely the Panthers will finish at best 7-9

lol.

afc north and nfc north. cakewalks

because it's absolute insanity

how about you admit you were drunk when you wrote this rambling poo heap

anytime I have to read "but hear me out" within the first statement I want to lose interest.

Also it's pretty tough to suggest any major sports franchise that's over .500 for the current regime "doesn't want to win two years in a row." I mean, there's certainly a lot more going on than want.

I disagree with so much of this, but there does seem to be a consistent theme of "keep a team together" after 2003, after 2005, after 2008. After each of those years we gave big contracts out, kept it close to the vest in how we spent outside the team, and bragged about how we kept the team together.

And that's Jerry Richardson.

It doesn't make it the wrong thing, or let's cry about the owner. But I don't think it's a secret that the guy who visited a pending-free-agent Deshaun Foster in the hospital, or tagged him two weeks later, wanted Peppers and Jake back.

Not sure I get the save money idea when they're hard up against the ceiling of the Salary Cap. They can't spend anymore, they certainly could spend it more wisely.

lol not just a ceiling but a floor. they have to spend a certain amount of money, and they're not like the Bucs ownership that gives 30 million dollar contracts with 2/3s tied up in incentives related to blocking 10 or more extra points.

this is just another attempt for people to oversimplify a complicated, complex situation into something simple and easy to understand.

If we didnt want to win year after year. For one we would have signed Fox to a new contract last year. Second we would have let Peppers walk this year and let Delhomme play his contract out this year. No need to give him a big contract when we are expecting to fail this year. 3rd we would not have traded our 1st round pick next year because we knew this was a hard schedule and we were gonna have a high pick next year.

If you want to see a Franchise happy with Failure every other year see the bucs. The have ripped there team up this year but have loads of picks and money to spend next year.

Whenever someone says oversimplify, what they mean to say is crap why didn't I say that.

Yes on spending a certain amount. But the Panthers hardly have their backs against the wall to have a winning record year in and year out. The PSL's leverage has gone the other way now. The Panther's get theirs whether they are winning or losing. Obviously winning helps but some schlub will plunk down some hard earned money to get PSL's off some fan who just realized what I said.

Until the demand DRAMATICALLY shifts from PSL's being gobbled up no matter what, continue to long for back to back winning seasons.

Winning record, low draft spot = cheap dollar slot. Losing equals potential higher money slot. No worries on expensive slot next year.

The team from the top down is built to just keep the interest up enough to remain on the radar. No awful slippage keeps the PSL teet nice and supple.

Not so fast. Again, off the top of my head, if the uncapped year goes, doesn't the teams with losing records get to sign MORE of their own players?

As we all know, your record determines your schedule the FOLLOWING year.

didn't read anymore after this...your whole premise is wrong.

with the exception of two games, the schedule has nothing to do with your record.

the schedule rotation they use was decided on in the last CBA and it calls for:

►each team to play the teams in it's own division twice (6 games)

► each team in a division plays all the teams from a particular division in your own conference once on a 4 year rotating cycle (4 games)

►each team in a division plays all the teams from a particular division in your the other conference once on a 4 year rotating cycle (4 games)

► the last two games will be against the two remaining teams in your conference who finished in the same place in their division as you did.

now go and make up a conspiracy theory using that.

Correct. Was what I posted wrong though? Your record does determine who you play?

Albeit two games.

Ok. I should have focused more on the money than the sked.

Kevin Greene was going down the path I wanted. Spending WISELY. The talent that you move in and out. That the Panthers have a DIRECT effect on.
