For those of you begging for Cowher

I am actually in favor of keeping Delhomme as a backup and mentor (what Rodney Peete used to be). If he can pass along his intangibles to a younger guy like Moore, it could help a lot.

He's definitely not a starter anymore, but any guy on the Panthers would tell you he's a good teammate. Pretty sure they'd agree with this option.

I am all for Jake as a meantor to the future. He has seen and done it all.

I still don't think it's unfair to mention that it took 15 years for Cowher to bring a Super Bowl Championship to Pittsburgh, ending a 26 year drought. I mention it cause folks always want the Super Bowl win, and rightfully so. I always liked Cowher, but he's no silver bullet.

It could happen. Cowher stuck with Kordell Stewar for several years, and Jake was better than him (until this year).

2000

Coach Bill Cowher named Kent Graham quarterback to start the season, and the team got off to a 1–3 start. When Graham injured his hip, Stewart was tapped to replace him. The team finished 9–7 and barely missed the playoffs.

2001

As starting quarterback, Stewart led the 2001 Steelers to a 13–3 regular-season record and the top seed in the AFC playoffs. Under the tutelage of new QB coach Tom Clements and new offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey, Stewart had his best year as a pro, throwing for over 3,000 yards, completing 60 percent of his passes, and attaining a passer rating of 81.7. He threw for 14 TDs and ran for 5 more. Stewart was elected to the Pro Bowl and was named the Steelers MVP.

The Steelers easily defeated the then-defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional playoffs. The eventual Super Bowl champion New England Patriots defeated the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game.

2002

Stewart began the 2002 season as the Steelers' starting quarterback, but after throwing an interception into double coverage in the end zone at home against the Cleveland Browns in the third game of the season, he was replaced by increasingly popular backup Tommy Maddox, and Stewart was released at the end of the season. Stewart did, however, keep the team's playoff hopes alive in his final appearance.

I don't see Cowher tolerating Jake's turnovers as well as Fox does. I'm not a Moore fan either but the throw that he made to Smitty is what a long ball is supposed to look like. I don't think Smitty has caught a ball longer than 60 yards without having to stop and come back first since 2005.

Bring a QB to stretch the field and our running game will be even more unstoppable than it already is.

Jake WILL be here at least one more season in some capacity, so drafting a guy in the second round like Pike or something and letting him take over 3/4 of the way through the season (if we have losing record) would probably be the best route. Then after next season, Jake will be retired whether he likes it or not.

Cowher's not perfect. People love him for his fire and charisma, but he's made his fair share of mistakes. Up until the Super Bowl win he - like Dungy before him - was in the "Schottenheimer" class of coaches. Good enough to win in the regular season, but with a really unfortunate tendency to fold in the playoffs.

Like Dungy, he finally got over the hump, due at least in part to his being overruled on a personnel decision (Roethlisberger). Could the trip back to that glory be an easier one? Possible, but it hasn't been for anyone else.

That's why Schottenheimer has the reputation he does.
