definitely play ME1. if anything just to replay ME2 with the paragon choices from ME1. you'll be surprised how much stuff they leave out of the game if you don't have an ME1 save. at GDC a dev said there are about 700 "plot hooks" that depend on your save file.

the control scheme will take a little getting used to though.

biotics is the ability to manipulate dark energy. in humans it comes from being exposed to element zero in the womb. in asari it's innate because of their physiology.

compare it to Storm in the X-Men. she manipulates air to lift things, so she's not telekenetic because she doesn't lift them with her mind. biotics is the same, just using dark energy instead of wind.

the new 360 update to use USB sticks as memory cards has opened up save editing.
