RIP Randy Meisner

One of the original 4 founding members of the Eagles along with Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Bernie Leadon. He had writing credits for almost everything the Eagles recorded in their first 4 albums and was most famous for his lead vocals on "Take It to the Limit." He left the band after the success of Hotel California, as did other members along the way (Leadon, Don Felder) thanks to Don Henley's ego, which wouldn't fit on an aircraft carrier.

I got to see the original version of the Eagles when they were still part of Linda Ronstadt's backup band in Los Angeles in 1971 and later saw the Eagles following the release of their second album when the appeared at the first California Jam at the Ontario Motor Speedway in April 1974.

When the Eagles broke up, it felt like the 70s were really over. My favorite Don Felder song is on the Heavy Metal Soundtrack, and I’m pretty sure most if not all of the Eagles were on it. For sure, Don Henley was, which I always thought was kind of odd.

but I can totally understand Randy’s take on the situation. Living day to day like that with a guy who believes his own hype probably isn’t worth it once you’ve made your money. I’d bet that it was half that, half jealousy. Meisner had an ego too.
