How much should Bryce play in the preseason?

Honestly, the QB snap management this off-season and preseason should be completely about the development of Bryce Young. The trade we made to get him says everything about what we think about Matt Corral. Signing Andy Dalton as a vet mentor and backup says a lot too. Corral is an afterthought. Not a single snap should be taken from Bryce solely to allow for the evaluation of Corral. We've cast our lot. We've hooked the franchise to Bryce Young.

The former Ole Miss quarterback figures to get the bulk of the snaps in the preseason games. That will give the 2022 third-rounder a chance to showcase his skills for the Panthers (and every other team) following what amounted to a redshirt season — Corral went down with a season-ending foot injury last August at New England. A strong summer could make Corral attractive to a quarterback-needy team. But there’s no reason for Scott Fitterer to give away a QB he traded up for and who has three years left on his rookie deal.

Joe Person of The Athletic analyzed the team’s offensive roster on Monday, a week before players convene in Spartanburg, S.C. for this year’s installment of training camp.

I would think Bryce gets all the snaps with the 1st team, maybe Corral could get a series with them in a game if Bryce has a couple really nice drives prior. Corral should get pretty much all the 2nd/3rd team snaps which lines up with "getting the bulk" per Person. Dalton really doesn't need any snaps at this point in his career, maybe a series or 2 with the 2nd team.

Since we're still 9 days away from camp and it's boring as fug in the nfl world why not discuss this. Obviously Reich will do whatever he sees best and we have no impact but still will be interesting to see how much run Bryce gets in the preseason.

Personally I'd play him in every game for at least a few series and have 1 game where he gets the full first half with starters. With 3 preseason games now I'm not really clear on how teams treat it, used to be the 3rd out of 4 games would have both teams' starters (minus a few vets) for the entire 1st half, not sure there's a unanimous league wide approach like that any more though. Important to note too with the Jets joint practices we may have some scrimmages that can serve a similar purpose to preseason action.

How ever much Reich is willing to play the starters. Send them out for a series in game one. 2 series in game two. A full half+ in game three Or which ever of the games is the new “game 3”.

If we can get it a full series of our 2s save maybe a few one OL against an opponent’s one defense. That will probably be in joint camp though.

I’d personally like to see him get some adversity as mentioned above. Our 2+ our 1c and maybe OT’s vs. another teams ones.

QBs don't play against each other.

Yet, he easily outplayed Darnold in that game. It wasn't close.

They were both dreadful being honest. By the way Andy Dalton is also in that top ten worst all time single game passer rating list I mentioned. I don't want to see him playing nothing against him personally I can appreciate he's filling a mentor role so to speak. That's fine but that's all I need.

I don't want to see Bryce play one single snap behind anyone but the starting offensive line.

Corral should see most of the reps. Give Bryce enough to get him comfortable.

As a few others have noted, it's nice to have a coaching staff we can better trust with these decisions.

Dalton doesn’t need to do anything really. I would be surprised if he gets more than a drive or two each game since he’s been around so long.

Bryce needs some reps but really like Person has been saying, Corral needs the reps. Need to see if he is a decent back up or see if we can get a pick or two out of him.
