Good point on the tag, with that you’ve basically got Brown for 3 years at $13M per year. If he’s looking for $24M a year after that trade him, otherwise lock him up for $15M per year.

We had a high priced DT not that long ago who produced sacks until he stopped being healthy.

Quinnen Williams is a DT, as is Jeffrey Simmons, as is Daron Payne, as is Dexter Lawrence, as is Javon Hargrave, etc. All have track records of producing 7-8 sacks per year, again, that is more than Brown has collected for his entire career. I understand Brown's strengths are against the run, but in the modern NFL the value on that is limited. Hell, look at we are paying Shy Tuttle to do that.

Any DL that isn't rushing the QB isn't worth anywhere near $20m/year. The 12-15 range? Sure we can talk. Apparently this staff loves DB so maybe an actual breakout year is on the way, but this is a bad take. The premier DT's get to the passer.

Back when we had Mills, Lathan, Greene, Bailey, our defensive linemen were lucky to get 3 or 4 sacks a year. Thats usually what happens to 3-4 linemen. They should get the tackles, but theyre just going to take up space. Brown shouldnt be getting around the same money as a premier 4-3 pass rushing DT.

Can't help but wonder how many of the folks whining about Brown's sack total have forgotten the old DT addage: "Two on me, someone's free."

Fairly important to consider, especially given how Derrick Brown was one of the most often double-teamed defensive linemen in the league the last couple of seasons.

Brown is a good player and we are in an age where everyone compares contracts and the number always goes up because that is the way the NFL works these days. DL regardless of recognition is a money making spot so its going to cost money whether you like it or not. Williams contract will be pittance in 2 years compared to some other DT.

Williams is being looked at as worlds better than Brown but you might want to check his numbers prior to last year...they aren't great other than the internet obsessed sack stat.

This...Williams and Brown both had the same amount of tackles for a loss at year 3 which I'd rather pay attention to.

While it's the 3-4 vs 4-3 alignment and its affect on roles and and individual stats is  a valid and interesting topic it is worth noting that Evero does not implement a traditional 3-4.

PFF ain't the gospel but they had him ranked 32 among all Interior DL in his 2020 his rookie year, which is above average (considering every team has 2 or 3 IDL starters (depending on whether they play 4-3 or 3-4).

He's an unsung hero like Star was at his peak for us, and Brown last year provided more pass rush than Star ever did for us. Brown isn't comparable to the big sack guys at DT like Williams, Donald, etc. but he's one of the best all around interior DL out there. We'll see how he does with the scheme change but I think it'll be benefit him. Believe what you want but most of us see his importance.

TBH, early on he was much closer to average. His leap last year was exciting, though.
