I tried to tell people Melo is not leaving Charlotte anytime soon. This is his 1st big contract. No way was he turning that down.

In general, I would agree the Hornets brass has made some HORRIFIC signings and decisions. 

This move, is driven by the market, not the Hornets.  Way less talent got equal or close to this type of money in all the other deals.  And if Ball walks, that would be way worse than possibly over paying him.

This is a max contract, it has nothing to do with the Hornets

Haliburton got the same deal and Melo is better than him. Haliburton set the market as soon as he got the max. Now every player better than him on their entry deal is all going to get the max.
