Nah this is a young top 10 pass rusher. The most important position on defense. This is like the QB position on defense. You don't play around with that position. If he is one of the better DE's in the league lock him up and don't think twice about it.

He could still develop though, he has been playing under the big top for the past few years...Now he will have a chance to show what he can do in a actual NFL scheme. The OLB role should suit him better in theory.

First you downplay his ability. Then you throw out excuses for what you call less than stellar play. Then finish off with a maybe a change of position will make him a better player. 

 

Well, it seems as though we are in for a long season if one of our best players isn't really all that good. Dang, and here I was getting all excited for the year to start.

Players don’t seem to like the tag. Sure it is top 5 money but it is one year and injuries… It occurs to me that a “prove it” 5th year then a “prove it again” tag year will most likely result in a disgruntled player walking to whoever throws him coin regardless of his play OR if he really shows out then the Panthers end up paying WAY more than they can sign him for now.

WTH? lol, it doesnt take much for you to jump off of a cliff does it? Did you miss my first post where I said I like Burns as a pass rusher, but he is not on the same level with the big guns at the position.

He was supposed to develop since we drafted him but the improvement has been marginal. Hopefully the new staff can get the most out of him, as the last idiots had him dropping in coverage on a regular basis. 

I am excited for the season to start as well, and I hope it is not a long season as we have had too many of those these past few years....

There's a whole lot of folks who don't want to pay him.

He is a very good pass rusher.  Extremely talented.  He is however still a liability in the running game.   Pootie has a point.  If he will sign for something around the terms of the Chubb deal do it and don’t think twice.  If he wants to break a record type contract then it becomes problematic.

Yep. It’s time to pay up. We made it clear when we turned down that Ram deal that Burns is a key player for us going forward. Time to pay him like it.

Garrett and Bosa both signed their contracts in 2020. With the steadily rising cap, figuring something near that ballpark is a realistic expectation. I don't think mimicking Garrett's contract 3 years later is at all unreasonable. If that's the ceiling on contract talks, we should be taking a sigh of relief.

He should have been traded but that ship has sailed.   I haven’t read anyone on here saying he shouldn’t get a fair deal.  He deserves that.  There are however a few people yourself included that are okay with giving him a mega deal.   And he ain’t worth that.

If Brian was as one dimensional as some would have you believe. He wouldn't be a 3 down Edge. He would be a situational pass rusher.

 

He is going to get top 10 money. And he will more than likely earn every penny.

You are the only one worried about some Mega Deal. Because you and a few others don't think he's worth that. 

 

He will be getting a top Edge salary, and he'll get it because he will/has earned it.
