Lol they aren’t getting Burns back. Rod would burn PNC arena down. He’s even said Burns can continue playing in Carolina as long as he wants.

What buddy forgot to mention is we have the ability to open up cap space by moving Pesce, Skjei, Drury, etc.

Cap space can be created but GMDW is just taking things slow right now. Still a lot of time left to improve the roster so no need to panic and do something where we don’t come out clearly better.

His point on SJS not taking 40% and EK’s issues remains valid though. Especially on a team like this. As much as most canes fans bitch and moan we are not a “the guy” team. Pick TDA up and call it good until the deadline.

More aptly put. We don’t need regular season guys. If anyone hasn’t been paying attention we’ve even the second best record in hockey for how many seasons now? 3? Or did Colorado beat us the season they won the cup. Anywho we’ve been top three for the while. What we need is is svech not to tear his ACL or a replacement of his caliber we can cheat the cap with. I am firmly of the camp if svech didn’t tear his ACL we would have won the cup. And probably the bubble year too.

This whole obsession with offensive defensemen is starting to get ludicrous to me. That’s how rod’s game works. We got a bit of grit. That’s great. We need to position ourselves to flip Drury(sorry dude) at the deadline, get someone who is injured but we know will deliver. Cheat the cap. Cause that’s how you win the cup in the past what? 6 season?

Exactly, we aren’t overpaying for EK. If it’s not a good deal then San Jose can keep that $11.5M cap hit which only gets worse as Karlsson regresses.

I really dont like offensive defensemen. They are defensemen. They are supposed to be good at defense.

I've long been off the EK deal. I don't think it's necessary, I don't think it improves the team from either a salary cap position or a playoff hockey contender position.

I dont like it either. We need another scoring forward. Defense was never the issue.

Interesting article about Nyander and the Canes. What I found most interesting was some of the stats they provide.

https://thehockeywriters.com/hurricanes-trade-target-maple-leafs-nylander/

`Carolina was the third-worst team in finishing ability (minus-31.15 goals above expected), and failed to convert on their opportunities and had the fifth-worst team shooting percentage (7.8 percent).  An injection of offensive firepower is needed, and badly. Carolina averaged 3.20 goals per game (15th in the league) and scored 175 goals (19th in the league), so adding extra scoring is apparent.`

Wow. Yeah I like Nylander. Scored 80 and 87 points the last 2 years with last year being his best. Only 27 years old, looks to be entering his prime. Right handed and can play RW and C. Yes please.

    • I find it more like now that I have been forced to watch Young so much it isn’t as much of a shock to my senses.   Desensitized they call it.   For real, it just looks normal almost now. Where the first game of 2023 I wasn’t sure what I was looking at it was so out of bounds for NFL type play. I literally couldn’t make sense of what I had seen vs Atlanta that first week.
    • Lynch in SF. Great is subjective but he has done pretty well there.
    • Sure, except Stroud has the ability to stretch the field with deep passes. He did that often last night with ease, but couldn’t connect on many due to being flustered by the defense. BY9 gets flustered and can’t throw screens, let alone even think about any deeper passes. Stroud would’ve changed the franchise and done more with the situation last year. My thought at least.    the hope is that last year showed tepper that he needed to step back from football decisions. There’s a positive in most situations and maybe we’ll see a new tepper in the near future.
