Bear's side of getting Moore

Recommended Posts

Bears GM Ryan Poles also inquired about defensive linemen Brian Burns and Derrick Brown, but both being on rookie contracts impeded either being included in the trade.

In the very beginning I was laughed at because I had [one of] three guys that I wanted in the trade,” Poles said, via The Athletic’s Jim Trotter (subscription required). “I did know and felt like there was more of an opportunity to get D.J. because he had a bigger contract and there would be a bigger benefit in cap space to kick back to Carolina. But it was not easy because they absolutely loved that kid. It was painful to pull him out of their arms. I really think it would have been even harder if he had been on a rookie contract.

Water under the bridge, but he's right, having the cap space benefit really helped.  If Mingo can produce something like 700 yards this season, it would be more than worth the trade.  Not to mention, it saved us a 2025 1st rounder.

Love DJ, but I think we wont have a whole lot of trouble replacing 1000 yards and 4 TDs every season.  To his credit though, he never had a real QB throwing him the ball.  Maybe Fields can become that?

Fields has no excuses this year.   We'll see.   As for  DJ, he didn't even cross 1k last year.  He had 888 yards.  Thielen had 716 on fewer attempts with 1/3 the drop rate and more first downs.  I'm not saying Thielen is as good as DJ.  I'm saying the production drop off isn't as extreme as the salary drop off.

    • I agree with you he is clear cut #1 CB and it isn’t particularly close. And I really like Johnson as well. WR I don’t think he is the best right now but most likely has the highest ceiling. His body control and athleticism is generationally elite. He cannot run routes tho lol he’s out there playing backyard. That can be taught, but I think he ends up a full time CB in the NFL
    • He is overwhelmingly the best prospect in this draft. There is zero question at all about this.  To suggest otherwise is being purposely ignorant.
    • If we had reporters covering this team who were worth their weight in salt, we'd know.  This is an lingering injury from 2021 that he re-aggravated week 9--He claimed to need surgery on December 12.  David Newton and Joe Person should be all over this until they have a response--which should take one phone call
