Also...isn't this proposed rule change up for consideration at the league meetings next week?

Third-quarterback rule: Teams would be allowed to carry 47 active players on game day, but the extra player would have to be a quarterback. Currently, teams are allowed to dress 46 players. The NFL used to allow teams to carry an emergency third quarterback on game day, but the league scrapped that rule in 2011. The rule came up again after the 49ers ran out of quarterbacks in their NFC title game loss to the Eagles.

Don't know why they ever changed that in the 1st place.

Active slot limits are stupid anyways. It's just a way for the teams to save a few million dollars a year on their contracts by not giving those players their game day bonuses

Aside from optical issues, it really don't make sense for the rest of the offense to have to make that big of an adjust from a 5'10" guy to a 6'6". I'm sure handoffs, O-line protection/windows, ball placement etc are all weird adjustments.

This. You have 53 guys on your roster. All 53 should be dressed and available.

He will certainly benefit from having Dalton there as well as McCown and the other coaching staff.

Hope this has cheered him up a bit.

Pretty much. Even if he doesn't get a chance to start he's still extremely young. He could look at it like a learning opportunity with a competent staff and a smart as fug #1 overall pick in the room as well. At worst he could have a long career as a backup if he shows any kind of comptentence in pre season or if the worst happens in regular season and we need him in there.

And if the rule isn't changed and Corral is cut, someone really has some explaining to do on why we drafted him in the first place. People like to blame Rhule for everything now but there is no reason he would have wanted to trade down to obtain a developmental qb when his ass was on the hot seat.  And don't tell me Rhule thought a late third round qb pick was going to buy him more time (already heard that from someone on here).

This. I get it, everyone wants to be a starter and a star but an NFL backup QB is a pretty sweet gig. Plenty of guys have made a LOT of money and took minimal physical damage by being career backups.

When you're his age you don't have a lot of life experience and perspective. But he'd be wise to look at the starting salaries of jobs he'd be looking at with his degree (assuming he graduated) outside of football. I'm pretty sure that holding a clipboard on an NFL sideline would start looking a lot more appealing

Think of it as players being cards in a deck. You go into "battle" each week with 46 cards out of your deck of 53 because of injuries creating an "unfair" advantage. If you could use all 53 cards during a "Battle" the team that has 1 superstar and 2 above average players and 2 average players on the sidelines for that week for any number of short term injuries would be fighting the "battle" with 48 cards against a team with good health playing 53 cards creating an inherent unfair advantage.

Now, if it is conducive in 2023 for this rule to exist (it is to a degree) and could the NFL benefit from expanding 53-man rosters to like 55 or 58-man rosters to allow more players and therefor allowing more active slots on gameday is def a good point to go after the NFL for..

McCown is the perfect person to help him with perspective.

He probably also learned a bit watching the poo show that was Sam/Baker and PJ actually getting the starts at one point after being DOA as the 4th qb in camp.

    • As I said less than 10 minutes into the game, Boston looks nothing like we're used to seeing. Regardless, any curb-stomping of the Bruins is welcome.  The scorers all got the glory tonight, but all 6 D-men had excellent games. Across the board- Gost, Orlov, Chatty, Walker and, of course, Slavin & Burns.
    • I just tried a few mock draft simulators and this is the only way lol. Nothing else makes sense.
    • No, biggest weakness is pass rush, but I don't think there is a blue chip can't miss DE prospect to take at #1 this year, same as with QB.  But beyond that, moving forward, yea WR is a pretty damn big weakness. We have 1 game this season over 224 yards passing and just traded away our best WR (who wasn't going to re-sign here anyways).  That WR no longer on the team was also the only player we've had this year who had over 78 yards receiving in a game.  So again, yea, WR is one of our biggest weaknesses even right now, let alone moving into the future. As I just said in my other post, I love Legette, but he's not going to be a Top 5-10 WR type of guy, Top 15-20 I can see, I think he can be a good #1 WR or an elite #2. After that, what do we have for the future?  Thielen isn't part of it, sure as hell isn't going to be Mingo, and as much as we all like Coker, in no world is Coker as our #2 to Legette as the #1 going be considered as "having weapons" at WR, even with Brooks and Sanders. But put someone like T-Mac into that group, who I genuinely think is going to be a Top 5 WR in this league for a long time, and it changes things.  A Top 5 WR with Legette/Coker as the 2/3, along with Brooks and Sanders, has the potential to be one of the best set of offensive weapons in the league if they reach their potential.
