Theoretically Dalton won't need much preseason exposure. Keep him safe

The guy behind him seems excited. Yeah i didn't even notice the date. Hopefully Corral doesn't start making "when one door closes, another one opens" type comments this season.

No. He's been on several teams. He was originally drafted by the Colts during the Covid draft.

Eason was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts with the 122nd overall pick in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.[24] In 2020, he served as the third-string quarterback, behind starter Philip Rivers and backup Jacoby Brissett. He did not play during his rookie season.[25]

With the retirement of Rivers, the departure of Brissett, and the arrival of Carson Wentz, Eason came into the 2021 season competing for the backup position with rookie Sam Ehlinger; Eason eventually won the role.[26] He made his NFL debut in Week 2 of the 2021 season, appearing in relief of Wentz, who was injured toward the end of the game against the Los Angeles Rams. He completed two out of five passes for 25 yards and one interception.[27] On October 19, 2021, Eason was waived by the Colts.[28]

I think catnip was asking about whose decision it was to add him to the team here, but more info is never a bad thing. Thanks LP!

Eason was signed to the practice squad 9/1/22, Rhule was fired a little over a month later on 10/10/22. So, yes, initially he was the coach at the time when he was picked up by the Panthers. Wilkes was the one in charge though when Eason got promoted to the active roster five days after that, so make of it what you will.

The timing is what's odd about this to me. Is he so terrible that he can't even make it into camp as a 'fodder' arm to help relieve fatigue? Are we going to see some move for a UDFA QB to stash on the practice squad? I'm curious to see how this plays out fully.

According to Mike Kaye:

While it’s unlikely that the Panthers keep just three quarterbacks on their roster throughout the summer, Carolina might want to give Corral an extended look behind Dalton and Young. With just three players taking reps at quarterback, Corral could have heavy training camp and preseason workloads, which could factor into his evaluation by the new staff.
