Christian McCaffrey calls trade to 49ers “the best thing that ever happened to me”

Christian McCaffrey has admitted that he initially was “angry” with the Panthers for trading him. Now, after 14 games (including the postseason) and seven months with the 49ers, the star running back is counting his blessings.

“In hindsight, I firmly believe it’s the best thing that ever happened to me,” McCaffrey said 

McCaffrey totaled 1,210 yards of offense and 10 total touchdowns with the 49ers, bringing his 2022 season total to 1,880 yards from scrimmage and 13 total touchdowns.

“I say this with the utmost respect, this is a family,” McCaffrey said. “It’s the first time I felt like, even alumni, just getting to know these guys, it’s special; it’s different, and there’s a reason it’s sustainable and has been for so long. The word I would use now is, just very proud to be a part of this organization.”

Yea he went from Rivera to Rhule. I don’t blame him for feeling that way. And on that note, I just noticed our full time HCs went from Rivera to Rhule to Reich….hope third R is a charm.

Dude loving the Bay Area. I seen him at the Warriors game so many times on TV. Dude is just a West Coast guy. He feels at home.

Running backs have short careers. He wasn't going to win anything here anytime soon. Maybe he will have a better shot there.

If I wasn't a Panthers fan I would have wanted out of here immediately. I would have sped all the way to the airport and never looked back. This franchise was going nowhere and had an empty stadium except for opposing fans. What few Panthers fans were in the stadium were booing Rhule, and looking bewildered at our pitiful offense. You want to play in front of a dozen angry Panthers fans or go battle in the playoffs with the world watching?

That said I hope the Niners are poo. I'll be thrilled if they do well for a bit only to lose in similar fashion in the biggest game of their season again. Those bandwagon fans deserve the worst.

Good thing for him. It was a good move for both parties. Wish the best for him; although I’m rooting for terrible win loss records for his team from here on out

Win-win.  Let's be honest.  Closer to home.  His lady can be much more successful in California.  No hard feelings.  I still love him and pull for them when they aren't playing us.

My only hard feelings are that it's my understanding that he's counting $18.3 million against our 2023 salary cap. That's an anchor pulling us down, and restructuring his contract in 2022 was not my favorite move if trading him could have been a possibility on the horizon.
