Draft lottery talk

If the Pelicans are that desperate for Scoot we should consider drafting him. Miller seems like the better fit, but several teams are wanting to trade up for Scoot. Unless we can fleece the Pelicans I would consider just drafting him, trading Rozier, and signing some mid-tier vets like Seth to build some depth and leadership. Fire Clifford, hire Doc Rivers and we could be a respectable team very quickly.

Im fine with either but we definitely need a new coach if we draft Scoot. 2 pg's need to play in a fast paced system. I would love Dantoni.

Why would you suggest trading for a 34 year old Derozan?smh

Not trading Melo For Derozen. Trading him for another 1st this year and a future 1st.  Saving the money he will likely want for FA when Derozen will be a FA. Cut ties with Bridges and Hayward within the next two years. No Ball payday = Big $$ for 2024 Free Agency.

Demar could be chasing a ring at his age but he could be just chasing a paycheck.

Im asking you why would we want a 34 year old Derozan?

You said it yourself he's looking for a ring or a big paycheck. We can offer him none of those things and we shouldn't offer him at that age.

Without Hayward and counting Ball at 32m, the hornets would have around 40-42m for signings in 2024.

Yeah. Do this and stop listening to the Pelicans thrash around trying to sell off their problems. They were already gifted the rights to draft AD and Zion. Boo fuging hoo. It's our turn.

Now take away the Ball contract.  We looking at 70 million to work with. A starting PG (scoot) a starting PF (Walker) a starting Center (williams) and only holes to fill at SG and SF.  Both those can be filled with the 27th pick and guys already on the squad. McGowens, Kai and others could be decent role and off the bench guys. I need a reset.  Melo is our McCaffrey. Great player but got the injury bug and we need to move on. Go wing at 27 and hope McGowens and a 2nd rounder can battle it out at the 2 till we can upgrade through FA. If it's me Bridges and Melo on the trade block.

I know it's a party of one. I'm good with Melo. I'm not cool with Bridges. He is a very talented wing but I kinda think his numbers were inflated by how the offense ran and the dreaded ( payday efforts)

Wings are a dime a dozen.  The really good ones are special but I guarantee Tatum and Brown aren't both getting paid in Boston. They gonna pick one. SF is a gamble position.  You take risks. And yes I would throw money at Demar and have Scoot, Derozen, Rookie or two, Walker and Williams as my core. Plus we got Hayward for next year so he can play small forward till the younger guys are ready.

Rozier is here in 24. He's the only major player signed for that season.

Ball, Rozier, Bridges, Hayward, Williams

Scoot, GG, Oubre, PJ, richards

Plus another early 2nd rounder. During 23-24.

Then Hayward falls off, Rozier becomes tradable. Oubre falls off.

Roster going forward is

Ball, Scoot, Bridges, ?, Williams.

Legit best chance charlotte has. Derozan or anyone of his caliber isn't coming here via free agency. trading Melo would immediately impact the bottom dollar for the new owners, so that isn't happening.

Especially for draft picks in either of the next two drafts which are extremely weak.

Not saying what will happen. But what should for the long term. Your likely right on the roster. I would be good with that. I'm just planning further in a future where Melo has not been given a max contract despite health issues and Bridges given a big contract despite  not being able to keep his nose clean.  People getting hung up on the particular player but I'm just for adding two mid tier guys who can help over gambling on Melo finally putting it all together.

Definitely possible to add some mid tier guys, someone like Seth Curry or Kuzma for the mle (kuzma likely takes more, but an example) and add another player on top of that.

Im not trying to question your basketball knowledge, but you seem out of the loop.

1st It has already been reported Boston is not trading Jaylen Brown they want to sign him to a long term deal.

2nd what issues does a 34 year old aging Derozan solve? The Bulls signed him to contend and they didn't even make the playoffs this past season and they had some talent on that team.

3rd Hayward is a FA after this season. He will likely be trade bait with his expiring.

Bridges hasn't been signed yet my man.

It's like you living in the future or something. One step at a time.

    • Yeah and he succeeded at an even higher level in LA with an even better surrounding cast. Goff is a guy that isn't really able to dramatically elevate players around him but he can make a good situation even better. He is capable of that. Some QB's aren't. I am not sure Dak is able to do that and he is in a similar "class" as Goff, IMO.
    • i think i could handle that for a year. beyond that....i don't know.  back where we lived, when we had a few inches of snow, it might have been a couple feet because we weren't getting out and doing anything. i remember times where power would go out for days on end. we had propane and electric heat, depending on the floor. basement (had a couple bedrooms and a living room and kitchen down there) and main floor had gas logs. main floor gas logs was enough to take care of the upstairs, so we could stay warm and cook on the grill when we needed. we had a well so that was always an issue when the power went out. had to make sure tubs were filled with water for the toilets and we had gallons of water for drinking and cooking available. always had to make sure we were ready. that wasn't always the case. we had a couple moments where we were going through propane quickly and because we were dealing with the worst propane company in the world (amerigas) they wouldn't get out to put gas in our 900 gallon tank. made for some nerve racking moments.  i know y'all were probably a lot more able to handle that kind of thing, but after the little bit (comparatively) that we got here i just have no desire to get trapped again. maybe for a day or two a year get snowed in and i'm good.
    • I think he is just drawing a DC to them line and that's about as far as his thought process went. It makes almost no sense outside of that. Also, it doesn't make sense for Pittsburgh or Seattle at this juncture either.  I think our "veteran" pool is basically gonna be the Dalton/Flacco tier or the "pick your poison" options of young busts(Jones/Z. Wilson) or wild, TO prone gunslingers(Darnold/Winston/etc). We have the option to pursue I genuinely believe(depending on the way the rest of this season goes), we either draft a QB in the top 10 or resign Dalton. Outlier third option on taking one of the wild gunslingers that Dave feels like he can work with.
