Best player we've ever had at arguably the toughest position in all of sports.  Cam is it.... and I'm honestly not even a big fan of his... but he's absolutely our best and most influential player ever.

He wasn't even top 5 at his position.

Luke is the best Panther of all time, the four year stretch 2012-2016 Kuechly is one of the best defenders in the history of the game, up there with LT, Deion Sanders, Ray Lewis, Reggie White, Aaron Donald, Mean Joe Greene, and Ed Reed. Panthers have never had another player on that level, the next two closest would be Peppers and Smith

I'm a huge Kuechly fan. Huge!

He wasn't LT, Prime, Sugar Ray, Reggie White, Aaron Donald or Ed Reed level. He was a BEAST. But most of those guys changed the game in one way or another. Not a game but THE GAME.

Imo, the goat title belongs to the player that elevated the team the most, not the most talented at their position necessarily. That was easily Cam, no other player even came close to his impact on the team. If we’re picking who the best player at their position was, tie between Luke and Smitty.

Depends on what part of his career we're looking at.  He had several seasons where he was a top 5 QB, but he was also very hot and cold.  That said, let's not forget the team he was playing for, who has consistently had among the most piss poor QB play in the league year after year after year... with the exception of the years he was good, and the one halfway decent season we got out of Delhomme.

Luke's last two seasons in the league he was an absolute liability, so the same could be said for him... and Peppers.  Smitty had about three seasons for us where he wasn't top 5 either.

I think Cam was top 5 from 2015-2018 before the Steelers game. The thing with Cam is his impact isn't revealed in traditional stats. He dictated the game in different ways.

No one was as good as LT, but Luke was every bit as good as those other guys during that stretch

Put it this way, if you made an all NFL team from every player ever in history, there would be a debate about Luke vs. Ray Lewis for the MLB spot. No other Panther comes close (not including White's brief stint with the team)

Luke was the Manning of MLB's. He extended Ron's stay here.

Crazy thing too is Dan Morgan had HOF potential. I don't think he was on the cerebral level that Luke was but they were similar. Dan was a more vicious player if I remember correctly though.

I will never understand opinions like this....so his impact didn't produce stats - or wins apparently as we had a losing season 2/4 years.  Also the league didn't think he was even top 3 in his Conference cause he only made 1 Pro Bowl during that.  So if he doesn't have stats....and he doesn't make the Pro Bowl....and we don't win the majority of our games in half the seasons....and his defense during that span was top 15 three times.....how is our QB top 5?  Insane

But you know who was top 5?  Luke....Pro Bowl every season during that, All-pro first team 3 times, his side of the ball top 15 three times.....THAT is a GOAT.

Words like "depends",  and team he played for, shouldn't be used in this conversation.  I love Cam, but he wasn't a top 5 at his position,  and he failed to develop to the player he could have been.

Luke was an all pro straight out of rhe gates, and he was feared every year he played.

"Depends" definitely matters in the conversation.  Pre or post injury is quite important to the discussion. Also, this is about who the Panthers GOAT is, so I'm not sure why the team he played for wouldn't be a factor in the conversation?  He was rookie of the year (with quite possibly the best season by any rookie ever at the time), MVP, and led the team to an NFC Championship win.  I definitely DON'T love Cam, but I recognize his greatness and that he stands out like Mount Everest above all the other QBs we've ever had, while Steve B and Jake D are more like Mount Mitchell.

Luke Kuechly was definitely the best MLB we've ever had, but he was so on a team with a rich history of fantastic MLB (and OLB) play.  Context matters.  Cam excelled far above and beyond what has ever been achievable for QB on a franchise as dysfunctional as ours when it comes to offensive play.  He's the only player we've ever had that actually carried the whole team, including the defense, when it was blowing 30 point leads left and right.
