Peter King - Young is one smart guy

As fun as it was to watch Cam physically take over some games on offense it might be equally as fun if Young is able to mentally take over some games.  Seeing him at the LOS changing the play, making adjustments, and beating the blitz could be very entertaining.  Manning was always fun to watch when he was manipulating defenses.

The physical specimen quarterbacks are definitely fun to watch, but it's the best passers who win championships.

If he's protected, I think Young has that kind of potential.

Agreed. The more I read about Young the more I get excited about him as our new QB. It’s a shame we never got to see Cam with a staff that actually developed him and gave him what he needed to be successful.

That particular concern doesn't go away now that he's drafted.

Just the opposite, it becomes very real.

Obviously we all hope it doesn't manifest into anything, but it's not going away.

While it’s not the same, we’ve seen Bryce stay sturdy for 12-15 games per season. We’ll see if 17 games is too much for him. One thing about smarts though is it’s not just reading coverage, it’s knowing how to avoid hits. Something he has a knack of.

That depends on the line. He got sacked a ton his second season in college.

We are you so miserable?

Oh fine, ya got me. So happy our QB can recognize a blitz and slide protection. Everyone! Everyone! Make way, the next 5'9 Payton Manning hath arrived!

Seriously. It's one story about a team aligning in such a way it can only be one thing at that level. It's logical deduction and it's an easy one to make at that.

First; I bet you are going to be miserable if Young goes on to have a really good career.

Second; There has never been a 5'9" Peyton Manning, so he can't be the next.

Third; He's 5'10" and a smidge. If you can't get your facts straight it makes it tough to take you seriously,

Fourth; The vast majority of freshman in their first game have a hard enough time just getting the play off.

Fifth; There are college QBs getting ready to be drafted that still wouldn't know what to do in that situation.

In conclusion; You can hate Bryce all you want, but the kid knows football and how it's supposed to be played.

You can make fun of his size, well, because it's right out there for all to see. But the kid is going to be fun to watch. So you might as well get used to it. Or just keep bellyaching about every little thing. Your choice.

Were really going to have 100 different threads about how smart Bryce is Jesus Christ

I wish the off-season wasn't so fuging long

Is that a rhetorical question, or do you really want an answer? Cuz I think you already know the answer. Ah hellz, it's Yes. The answer is Yes.

Right about now, everybody wishes the off-season wasn't so long. lol

Man.  We've got a long history of thinking we're smarter than everyone whose job is football here, myself included, but some of these Bryce takes (from someone who *didn't* want to draft him, for the record) are just...silly.

I mean Christ - the level of malcontent it takes to rail against his football IQ, which is like the one thing basically *everyone* agrees on, is staggering.

he's got to tamper our expectations. that's his mission in life, to help us put the brakes on our excitement because Young or really any other QB taken at the top of this draft or any other draft isn't really worth the selection because you can get a Tom Brady in every draft.

really he's just a miserable person in here.

I'd have preferred Richardson or Stroud. Hell, maybe even to have been able to trade down and take Levis.

If Young works out, great. We are banking on him not just breaking the mold, but shattering it and tossing it in the trash. Average arm, average release, 5'10, above average processing, average mobility. Even comparing him to Steph Curry is a stretch because Curry is 6'3 and is an outside shooter.

My job here isn't to make anyone miserable. But you don't get to start at Alabama without being able to call protections and seeing an overload blitz isn't difficult when you recognize the alignment.

Josh wanted Stroud. His breakdowns made that obvious.

Yeah we didn’t draft the player you preferred. We drafted the played that 90% of scouts and analysts had as the top QB in the draft. We drafted the QB that the Texans actually wanted over Stroud.
You keep looking for some elite physical trait. Physically Young is capable of playing QB in the NFL, but you want find anything elite just like Brady, Burrow, Manning, Brees, and Wilson. These QBs excel at playing the position with poise, accuracy, and elite processing. So you keep hoping for a Jeff George arm while most of us are wanting a Manning brain.
