I definitely think we will be in every game with Bryce.. my worry is the talent around him Tepper already make a comment the extent of "he's such a point guard that we won't have to spend much on WRs since he distributes so well." Uh... no you get this man some of the best weapons in the NFL his rookie year like the Bengals did with Burrow like the Eagles did w Hurts.. what the Chargers did with Herbert... not what the Ravens are doing with Lamar smh I hope he was just talking...

Just saying. Everything people are saying about Young, they said about Zac Wilson. Even if he was in the SEC, he was playing with the most talented team that wasn't Georgia. When his receivers left, he was just average for what you'd expect out of an Alabama QB.

I'll believe it when I see it but he's going to have to change a lot of his game to make it in the NFL. I think he will start Week 1, but honestly, he reminds me a lot of PJ Walker, more so than Drew Brees or Russell Wilson.

I hope I'm wrong. We have an offense to compete in the NFC now, so long as QB pans out.

LOL

Yeah, its hard to take you seriously, when you are comparing the consensus #1 overall pick and Heisman winner to the xfl standout PJ walker.

Bryce may not meet expectations, but he is clearly not PJ Walker.

Would be nice to have a late season game against Tampa so we can knock them out of the Caleb Williams sweepstakes if necessary.

I know its cliche at this point, but there are like 4 top qb prospects waiting on deck for next season.  2 are incredibly talented and the other 2 are in positions to have good years.  Maye and Williams are seeming locked in while Ewers and Penix could rise.   But yeah TB getting maye or williams would kindof suck

I feel like this was being said around this time last year with the '23 class....and most other years. Getting Levis/Bryce/Stroud was a hot topic.

Gotta disagree here, I follow the draft heavily every year and the only similarities Wilson shared with Bryce as a prospect is off platform throws and being able to play outside of structure. However there was concern even then about his maturity, ability to read defenses go through progressions.

Bryce’s main selling point as a player and prospect is his poise and decision making. Neither were ever perceived as a strength for Zach. Whereas Zach relies on playing outside of structure to mask his weaknesses, Bryce plays out of structure to save broken plays. He’s shown more than enough ability to command and play from the pocket. Bryce has also shown he excels under pressure and throws with great anticipation, neither of which Zach really showed.  Then add the difference in competition on top of that too.

I don’t think anyone, myself included, has or had any questions about Bryce’s mental game and whether or not he’s mentally prepared for the NFL. The guys been preparing for it all his life and it comes across that way, the guy just oozes “natural leader”. It’s just a question of he can physically hold up at his size.

no one was ever saying the same kind of stuff about Zach. He had crazy arm talent and off platform throwing/playmaking ability, but his ability to process the field and go through progressions was always a question.

Might be interesting to see but OL are not standing straight up when blocking. A 6-5” QB may in fact be looking over an OL who’s not standing straight up. Again, lots of variables (like height with helmet on and knee bend/base) but I think that it’s not a fully true statement that QBs can’t look over an OL and that Young does in fact have less chance to look over in some cases.

with the exception of a few, they can't look over. better yet, they don't. that's just something that they don't do. i was watching David Carr talking about Young and that was something that he was bringing out, QBs don't look over the top of the OL. they look through them, they all pick their lanes to scan the field and pick their targets.

I wouldn't undervalue these weapons. Maybe none of these guys are considered #1 receivers, but they have enough talent and experience to give Young a balanced attack...which may fit his style of quarterbacking anyway. Plus Sanders and Hurst should be solid safety nets for the rookie also.

Finally, what's the other option? Trade away more valuable assets to get someone considered "elite"?

Agreed on the lanes, but I do think that with bend of the lines, a taller QB could have some additional views. I think Young clearly finds his lanes and is used to that and clearly effective in doing so. I recall Brees talking about how he tilted his head up to get additional height when looking downfield. If Brees had to do that to get a better view then we can’t say that QBs only use lanes.

Only,  no. They find some way to adapt and find their lanes, but there's only so much tilting even a 6'2 QB can do to look over a 6'5 lineman with cleats and helmet.

But your asking for a lot to happen to be able to depend on looking over your line. ...and the DL that they are trying to stop.

It's just not the consistent and reliable advantage you'd think it is, and that advantage would only be reserved for those QBs over 6'5.

By that same token, it's not the disadvantage to Young people are making it out to be. Good QBs find a way to see the field, regardless of circumstances. Bad QBs don't.

What if the concerns of his size and staying healthy are true? What's our ceiling then?

Why worry about it?

Until he proves he can't get it done it that he's a fragile twig, I'm going to believe that he's not. Seriously why stress or worry about it? Not a damn thing any of us can do.

    • The bottom lines to me are that a) we played well enough to beat the best team in the league and b) Bryce Young is growing into a bridge QB role (his ceiling) for us. As much as I don't want BY around after the season, it seems DC can still build the O with a game manager at QB for now. Best case scanario, we can build the D through the draft this year and take a QB we have conviction outside the 1st this or next draft. If BY keeps improving, we are going to win a couple more games this year.
    • Bryce has been a completely different QB since coming back. That started in Denver where it was obviously he was playing a lot more loose and willing to push the ball downfield  Bryce continues to build off of the previous weeks performance and that’s what you want to see Bryce has been making some real good anticipation throws. Reading defenses well. Pushing the ball downfield (7 throws of 20+ air yards yesterday. 8 if you want to include PI to Thielen). The deep ball accuracy has been there. Some of Young’s best throws yesterday were incompletions. Sideline balls to XL and Moore both should’ve been caught. RZ dot to Tremble should’ve been caught. And another RZ ball to Moore that Young gave him a chance at. Bryce is starting to execute Canales offense and yesterday Canales finally opened it up a bit. Canales was to blame for the 126 passing yards in Germany as he played a more conservative game.  The next bit I’m looking for his for Young to be a bit more decisive with running the ball. Start putting that on film and it’ll help open things up a tad
    • This KC team isn't the juggernaut it once was.  How many one score games have they won this season?  How many of those one score wins would probably have been loses if Mahomes wasn't the QB?  Their secondary is vulnerable and it was obvious today.  Grandpa Thielen was able to get open at will all game long. Bryce played well, but thinking this is the exact same KC defense Young was able to move the ball against as last year isn't going to compute.  Last year's KC defense was #2 overall.  They have regressed. I've said it before, Bryce can move the ball before the red zone, but once there, he struggles.  He is not a threat with his legs and the passing windows get much tighter.  He's not turning the ball over, so that is a great place to start and build upon.  I still question much better he can get.  Beyond a game manager?  I highly doubt it.
