Not to detract from the convo going on in here but I’ve been exposed to Bears twitter this week….man those are some of the most delusional fans ever. I know we have some delusional people in our fanbase but they be trippin over there lol.

I get that they have our pick next year and want us to do bad but the way some of their fans talk you’d think they didn’t earn the #1 pick and that we did lmao.

The media has been hyping them up since they traded the pick. I don’t get it either. Fields has yet to prove he can  even be an above average passer in the NFL. They were the actual worst team in football last year and they drafted a RT in the top 10, added DJ Moore and D’onte Foreman, and some linebackers.  I don’t see how that gets them into the playoffs unless Justin Fields all of a sudden becomes Peyton Manning, or the rest of their division is a dumpster fire.

I think they could be picking t5 next year…with their own pick.

It benefits the NFL if teams in big markets look good...even if they're not 😕

If we're being honest, the same can be said of high profile players.

Giants are basically repeating what Tennessee did a few years back.

Overpay the average QB aka Tannehill/Jones and underpay the actual player that makes the offense aka Henry/Barkley.

Why not just give the RB some of the money that you overpaid for the average QB?

I swear some GM's just don't think. Nobody was going to overpay Daniel Jones and they overpaid him anyway.smh

Why doesn’t Daniel Jones give him some of that money? How is it the GMs fault for giving the deal they had to give in negotiations? GM probably wanted to give Jones less than he got, and Jones probably wanted more than he got, and they met somewhere in the middle. It’s not like Jones came in and said “I want x” and GM said “That’s not enough, double it!”

It’s up to the QBs to take less money if they want that money more evenly distributed throughout the team. There’s a salary cap and salary floor, they know the deal.

Definitely. It was funny watching in real time how much better DJ Moore got in the media’s eyes the second he was traded to the Bears. You’d think we gave up Jerry Rice.

tangentially NFL related

Quote

D.J. Hernandez, the older brother of late NFL tight end Aaron Hernandez, was arrested last week amid concerns that he was allegedly planning school shootings at the University of Connecticut and Brown University.

According to TMZ Sports, officers from the Bristol Police Department in Connecticut arrived at a residence where Hernandez was on July 19 after he posted threatening messages, including, "Will I kill? Absolutely, I've warned my enemies so pay up front."

True 😄

It's probably fair to acknowledge though that the Panthers haven't given the NFL (or their own fans) much reason to have high expectations over the last few years.

Here's to hoping that changes.

It’s super weird. Like at best, they’re the 3rd best team in their division this year with the potential to be the worst if Jordan Love is good because the Packers have a better overall roster than Chicago does. They legit might have the worst D-Line in football.

Also, we didn’t even pick in the top 5 once through the Rhule era so if somehow the pick we gave them turns out to be top 5, something went horribly wrong.

Good god they need to go ahead an execute that worthless sack of garbage now and get it over with. Better yet just lock him up and let him hang himself with his underwear. I doubt anybody will miss him much more than they do his idiot brother anyhow.

Yes, hoping we’re done with the gaffs and constant over correcting. I feel like we’ve been see-sawing since the end of Foxes tenure.

First we brought in Meeks and wasted 2 years drafting tweeners and undersized guys who couldn’t physically compete in the NFL. Then we brought in Ron who brought a Coryell coordinator to bring us out of Foxball offense, but couldn’t tell you what a screen or a slant was. Then we move on from overly loyal Hurney who handed out too many albatross contracts, to Gettleman who was the opposite end of the spectrum with our vet players and chased guys like Gross and Smith out the door with no real backup plan. Gettleman arranges his draft board by height and weight and we swing back on the other side of the tweeners to guys who are just big but we ignore major red flags.

Everybody hates Gettleman so much that we see-saw back to overly loyal Hurney. We fire stuck in his ways old school players coach Rivera and swing the pendulum to young fast talking college recruiter Matt Rhule and let him put a staff together of college coaches. Hurney was notorious for missing on mid-round prospects, so we bring in a GM who was part of some of the best mid-late round drafting over the past decade. And now we’re here, we’ve swung back to old head stable NFL coach. He’s hired a really good mix of younger and older guys, but I think the real test will be to see what happens if we lose Ejiro Evero and/or Thomas Brown to other coaching gigs after a year or 2.

Until a QB pay scale gets worked out. Or the Cap goes up to account for those larger salaries. I'm afraid teams are going to have to find ways to cut costs. Last year the WRs got lesser contracts, and this year it's the RBs.

The Cap was supposed to help level out the field. All it has really done is muddy up the waters.

Putting a Cap on the QB pay scale would make it easier to even out the spoils. But I wouldn't hold my breath on it happening.

They should do something like tie QB salaries to a percentage of the cap.  Like 15-18% of the cap per year, max.

How will we ever replace his 1000 yards and 4 TDs a year?
