I'd imagine there qre probably a fair number of Rhule era "WTF" stories we still haven't heard yet.

I would agree as he is a very convenient scape goat.  We will never truly know the degree of control Matt Rhule (he both claimed he was in control and that he was not in separate articles) actually had, but Tepper and Fitterer giving the man total control speaks to their decision making ability.

In reality we've gotten quite a bit of behind the scenes information from those years since Rhule was fired. Hell, there was a fair amount of it out there even before that happened, and what's come out since has pretty well jibed with what was known before.

Bottom Line: When you have total control (which Rhule had from the beginning) you're not a "convenient scapegoat".

C.J. Henderson - Carolina Panthers CB

It would be a massive surprise if the Carolina Panthers didn't acquire another cornerback relatively early during the 2023 NFL Draft. Those in power have ignored this particular position group in free agency despite some serious concerns, which means it's essential the unit is bolstered in some capacity before the campaign.

Perhaps this represents a vote of confidence in underperforming players such as Keith Taylor Jr. and C.J. Henderson. Both failed to meet even modest expectations last season, with their inept performances during Carolina's crunch clash at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 17 playing a leading role in the team's eventual demise.

Henderson won't be getting his fifth-year option picked up this off-season. This leaves the former first-round selection facing a career crossroads heading into the final year of his rookie deal.

The one-time Florida stud was tipped to be the next great shutdown cornerback coming out of college. But questions about his desire and inconsistent production leave Henderson on the brink of becoming an afterthought unless things improve drastically next time around.

If the Panthers bring in another capable presence or two via the draft or free agency, the urgency increases further for Henderson. And there will be no sentiment whatsoever in the decision-making process despite what Carolina gave up to acquire him from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Not too familiar with LSU guys but yeah, that's possible.

OBJ, Lenny Fournette (for a while), Kayshon Boutte, Tyson Jackson, Jamarcus Russel, Dwayne Bowe, Glenn Dorsey, Derrius Guice, Barkevious Mingo. They had some hit but that is a lot of fail right there and bad attitudes to go with it.

List definitely makes sense...

Remember that time Rhule thought he had a playoff team after 3 weeks, traded for Henderson, and proceeded togo 2-12 the remainder of the season? I remember...

To be fair, and with the disclaimer that I'm definitely not a Rhule apologist, it looked that way to a lot of us.

Remember the absolute euphoria when we traded for Stephon Gilmore?

    • He made some excellent throws but he always has made some excellent throws here and there. I don't know what to think, which is what I was apprehensive about. Is he going to have a decent downfield game? Because okay Legette dropped one, but someone was giving stats prior to the bye or during it where he had two downfield completions and one of them was the jump ball that is just launched and fingers are crossed that our guy comes down with it, and yesterday we saw that again. The Russell Wilson school of downfield passing.  I don't feel like that is sustainable, but at the same time you have to do Something to make the defense understand they have to defend that downfield throws. Like i said, confused.  I guess I'm going to review the game for myself and look closely at his mechanics and stuff because if he actually fixed that stuff it explains the better throws. And that has been my biggest objection, or what I see as the thing that makes or breaks his chances, that unorthodox dropback and tippy toe action and not having his feet set which limits velocity etc etc.
    • The negative Nancy in me (or objective?) says that they had a bye week to prepare for the Chiefs. However, it’s one thing to have a good plan and it’s another to actually execute it. For all the flack he’s received (from me as well), Bryce seemingly has put his head down and worked his tail off and his play is giving me hope. The first 18-game Bryce showed no progression whatsoever. He gets benched, comes back, and has shown steady progress every week he has started. I think I’m starting to see what the Bryce lovers and unconditional defenders were saying all along, and I hope he can show that on a regular basis for the sake of our QB1 position.
    • Yeah, we could still very well end up 4-13 with the 2nd pick.   I think LVR has the inside track for 1, with only a JAX team as a team on docket that could be beatable.
