DJ Johnson walks right in above YGM on the depth chart? I doubt it.

It’s not as traditional of being ahead or behind. Denver had 6 DBs and 7 LBs plays 30% snaps and above last year. What we’re going to employ is not what we’re used to.

Right. Keep in mind there are still good free agent EDGE options available

So we wasted precious draft capital AND we are going to spend on a FA edge? Sounds wasteful to me. Like I said in another thread and that tweet says, Mingo and Johnson were picks by a staff that got caught flat footed, panicked, and reached.

Look, the draft never falls as well asone would like.

Before the draft,  I was against receiver in the 2nd, because what was expected to be there had no size.  We got a good receiver with this pick.  I personally can't be upset about this at all.

Of course pass rushers get taken.  While it's obvious many outside the building,  and here on the huddle don't like our 3rd round pick, but our staff likes him for a reason. He certainly is talented enough. Let's see our coaches mold this one.

Some reactions today are just strange in general. The staff is being upfront and explaining their decisions.

Saw someone elsewhere claiming a Chinn is our backup “SS”, like wtf?

I think many are still used to the 4-3 prototypes that had some hybrid looks and aren’t seeing the 3-4 sub packages that have 5 & 6 DB looks (w/2 NB) that Denver & SF have run.

Frank clearly said we have 4 specific types at EDGE to fill. Burns is A, Haynes is being mad overlooked as B, DJ Johnson likely C and YGM battling Barno for D.

I took that as 4 specific types of LB. Don’t think you can have 4 specific types of OLB, numbers don’t work to have that luxury.

I mean that’s straight out of the mouth of Scott and Reich

Well, if we have an edge setter who runs a 4.49 40 yard dash, let's fuging go. Why is everyone complaining? Dude is 6'4, 270 lbs, can set the edge and, with some work, will have the speed to get guys on their heels in pass rush.

Seriously, why complain? Sure he's raw but the Panthers have more holes on defense than people realize, I believe.

I question taking a Nickel/Safety type guy, albeit one who is very good (watched some FSU last year) who is undersized rather than a front 7 guy who has size and elite speed for the position.

The 3rd round pick defense is the definition of just blind defense of the home team.  We would knock any other team for the reach given the the better options/football players available .

if you can’t knock the pick then you basically are arguing no pick by any team should be criticized .

Especially when you had one of the BEST ILB prospects in the country sitting there!!!! A position we are not very deep in

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
