E.Brown evaluation....

The team that valued him most drafted him. Meeks loves his undersized speed DE. The same thing would have happened this year. And sorry most where justifying using a top 15 picks because he was projected to go there last year.

Crabtree held out on his contract because hes agent was using his draft projections to demand more money.

Right. That's...nice....

I am really at a loss at why you have focused on my posts, I was just offering insight into why he fell from his draft projection.

Was he a top 20 talent? Apparently so. Was he a top 20 player based on need? No it appeared not.

The Crabtree thing is a touch bizarre. You are comparing a players contract negotiations, to peoples opinions on how a player is doing. Not sure I follow your logic. No I know you are saying that both are using pre-predicted results to prove a point, but the two do not really add up.

Most conceed that Brown perhaps should not have been drafted higher, they are merely pointing out that he had enough talent to give him a high pre draft pick. I do not think ANYONE is justifying using a top 15 pick to draft in the second round purely based on his pre draft status. If they are, please point it out.

Anyway, this whole thread has nothing to do with the trade, it is to do with Brown himself and how he is performing.

Thats all I was getting at. I have seen some justified the trade on projections especially right after the draft.

But your correct I got off track, easy to do, short attention span and all. Brown has played up to what I expected contributing in rotation for a year or two.

  • 1 year later...

Brown finished his 2nd season at the tender age of 23 and recorded these stats (from www.profootballfocus.com):

21 Solo Tackles (3 Assisted, 2 Missed)

4 Sacks (3rd on team)

2 Hits (8th on team)

16 Pressures (2nd on team)

17 Defensive Stops (9th on team)

Giving him career totals of:

35 Solo Tackles (4 Missed)

7 Sacks

9 Hits

29 Pressures

31 Defensive Stops

Disclaimer: PFF review all tackles, including sacks, so often 'half sacks' credited to one player. Pressures are credited when a defensive player forces a QB to move in the pocket, but do not credit it when the QB steps up into the pocket. Hits are credited if the defensive player makes significant physical contact just as or after the ball is thrown.

    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
    • We're in a great position to see just how big of a misstep it would be, having made so many ourselves
