E.Brown evaluation....

Yeah, he was wearing out that Tampa LT late in that game. You can definitely see that he's progressing.

i noticed that too... while he may never have actually gotten to the quarterback, he constantly caused pressure... which is just as important as a sack IMO

If you just compare Brown to what other rookie DE's have done in recent years, as opposed to guys who were switched to OLB's, he's looking pretty darn good.

I would say so too. He has been working on his moves some and is lightning fast. I think he needs to bulk up though cause he really looks like a LB plays DE.

This is more a long-term deal for me. You can't make or break a kid based on his rookie season. IMO for him to be worth the trade he is going to have to consistently be amongst tops in the league in sacks. That is what you expect out of a first round grade DE pass rusher, right?

usually when you trade a future first round pick in a present draft, you're trying to get someone who can make an immediate impact for you (unless it's for a QB).

i'm sorry but Brown hasn't provided that.

first year DE almost never provide an immediate impact. If we lose peppers this year we are going to need Brown and we are going to need his extra year of experience.

i think he would have had more of an impact had pep not been around more just because of playing time.

he has a lot of room to grow and i think he can. i liked the kid before we drafted him. he's getting used to the speed of the game and the strength of the OTs and i believe next year he will have a lot more going on. the best thing for him is getting him on the field more. through the offseason i envision him watching a lot of tape to get used to the offenses he'll be going against.

i'm convinced when the game slows down for him he'll be a huge impact player.

lol he rolled off josh freeman, probably because he's smaller than the QB

I thought he did a great job of going for Freeman's throwing arm and affecting the plays though. That's exactly what you want from your DE's when they're going against big QB's like Freeman or Big Ben.

Interested how you would have gone about replacing Pep?

You later mentioned free agency, who were you thinking of? If not, would you rather we take the most promising 4-3 DE in reach and give him a year to grow this year, or wait till next year and be forced to throw him into the starting line up?

This is a genuine question. I am just intruiged how you would have gone about it. I personally think that the FO drafted Brown to replace either Pep or Brayton. They were looking at having continuity, rather than having a year of drop off from the DE position. After all, in this scheme the front four is the most important part to the D.
