Re-Examining the Delhomme Extension

lol

Do you have a single example of that?

I understand your laughter but what I am refering to is aside from the role of GM as a scout and builder of a team.

The fact he was able to fit the contracts of Gross, Delhomme, Peppers, Gamble, Lewis, Maake, Smith ect. under the cap this year was an amazing feet. Was it a smart move? I would say no but the fact he was able to make it happen is still impressive.

Hurney probably could make a lot of money working for the mob with the way he is able to move money around.

If Hurney is fired he may not get hired as a GM somewhere else but you better believe he will find work in some type of high level position within the NFL. Any GM would love to have Hurney working the numbers for them.

What I thought was a well-written and insightful article on Delhomme's deal. Something to look at and analyze for this discussion.

Read that too, it is a tough read, but the point is Delhomme will cost us to out right release.

What was interesting is that the last two years are options, but expensive NOT to uphold.

He is at the very least, coming back next year.

the worst part about it was that he had one year leftover.

as bad as he played in the zona game, it Fox and Hurney were in a convenient position to evaluate the QB position for the next year and beyond.

You keep him for the next year, and see how he recovers from his slump, and if he did, you extend him for a reasonable sum of money in 2010, if he doesn't, set him free, at no cost to you.

Of course they had to let their hearts get in the way and latch onto him for another 5 years with 42 million potential dollars to be made. ...and people think drafting a QB early in a draft is risky. That's not something a smart GM would do at all.

You think they paniced?

The thought of not having a vet at the helm beyond this season may have unsettled them. It could be that they did not want to have uncertainty floating around the team in the most important position on the team.

Dunno , just thoughts. I do wish they had left him as is with his contract, it made far too much sense like you said.

Unfortunately cap spae had to come from somewhere.
