CJ Henderson and Keith Taylor in Evero’s defense

To those who are familiar with the way Evero’s defense was is Denver, how do you see the fit of these two, and do you see any taking a jump?

 

If we don’t go WR or TE at 39 (based on signings) and elect to go defense, I’d prefer edge, but Jackson is hurt every year, Horn had also been unlucky, and we need more cover guys with starter potential. 

So how strongly should we look at corner at 39, and if we don’t, how careless would it be relying on the projection of Henderson and/or Taylor stepping their game up under this new staff?

Ok, read it.  Here is what I know, which is very generic and limited--anxious to read people with more knowledge.

The 3-4 will feature a lot of zone in cover 2 and 4.  I think zone suits Henderson, but Taylor's cushion last year would have been a par 4 on a golf course.

Personally I’m very much in doubt of Donte Jackson playing quality football next year. Doubt he returns before the season begins, and his game is so dependent on his killer speed and he just tore his Achilles which is known to zap speed. I’m intrigued with Henderson playing in a more zone heavy scheme, but still that’s a projection. We need to walk out of the draft with a minimum of one corner, doesn’t even need to be early but we desperately need depth.

My preferences at #39 have changed on a near daily basis but have been between the same three positions.

OG, CB, Edge. I do thinks starting caliber MLB would be warranted here as well but I would put that below the other three and if Dalton Kincaid were to somehow fall to us then I would sprint to the podium like the 40 yard dash to take him.

But with all that said, I think CB probably is our biggest need at 39 and with this draft being loaded with CB talent I think we could get s long time starter there. So I would be very happy with CB at 39 and think it fills an immediate need and a need going forward when we let Jackson, Henderson etc walk

They say he should be ready to go by August, but those Achilles injuries take a year to fully recover.

probably not the best candidate for zone (at least not out of the gate), but i'd like Ringo across from Horn.

After Gonzalez & Witherspoon, it's hard to see Banks or Porter falling far. 

So at 39, we're talking:

Kelee Ringo, Julius Brents, Tyrique Stevenson, Cam Smith, DJ Turner

I think Ringo & Brents translate and are my fave candidates.  (Big Brents fan)  Smith & Stevenson may not be as ready, Turner is like Forbes/a bit on the light side so could get pushed around.

Some later round corners I like

Cory Trice- Big ass athletic corner, 6 ft 3 206 pounds with longer arms than Brady Christensen. Ran a 4.46 40, with surprising agile 6.7 3 cone for his size. Plus put up a respectable 17 reps on the bench. Overall, his tape reflects what a long and strong player he is. Love watching him use his size to body wrs, plays strong. His biggest con is his playmaking, he’s not gonna fill the stat sheet with interceptions. My pro comp is Shaquille Griffen, with his size and athletic profile. Crazy enough his closest physical comp is Pat Surtain.

Clark Philips- Quite the opposite type of player compared to Cory Trice. This guy is a playmaker who excels with great technique and tenacious play demeanor. He’s a smaller corner at 5’9 184, but he plays bigger. He’s also not the fastest corner, ran a 4.51 40 which is slightly below average especially for his frame but it is manageable especially with his play instincts. Ironically Steve Smith loves this guy, if Steve Smith was a bit slower and played corner it would probably look a lot like Clark Philips. Projects best as a slot corner, was much higher rated at the beginning of the year and fell down due to testing numbers/recency bias.

I tore mine years ago and didn’t have the tools he will have and was running again in about 9 months, so maybe he will be ready. That said, I was running with it heavy on my mind and not pushing myself. I can’t imagine playing football 9-12 months after. I don’t know how they do it.

Brents visited nearly every NFL team---Not sure about the others.  He is tall-they like that.
