Hypothetical Question that I'm sure will remain civil

Personally, whoever we take in that scenario will give me reassurance that we chose the right guy

That's where I'm at.

But I won't take it as an indictment against the guy who gets passed over. New coach from a defensive background may value defensive players higher than offensive and he may feel that he can still get a respectable starter with their #12.

I doubt there is a scenario where HOU passes on Bryce Young if he's available. I mean, the main reason there is talk about them trading out of the pick is because they do not believe they have a shot at getting Young at #2.

But to answer your other question, if HOU passes on Stroud after we take Young, then I guess it will mean there is some truth to the recent rumors coming out about CJ regarding him being "difficult" to coach. Caserio is from the New England/Belichick tree and they are known for vetting their players. But who knows, CJ Stroud could be the guy like Bryce Young is the guy and the Texans will regret passing on him. It'll be interesting to see nonetheless on how this class turns out especially since Bryce and CJ will be linked for their entire careers.

If we take Young, and Houston does not take Stroud, I suspect there will be a mad dash to trade up to 3 with Arizona to jump ahead of Indy.

I will say that whoever we draft at QBwill do better than the guy(s) we didn't draft just because of coaching and the overall situation.

I just feel that we are better set up for success than Houston or Indy for sure.

That is truly an undeniable fact and will likely be forgotten when the history is written.

What if they select neither? The meltdown would be catastrophic.

Maybe. I think the only catastrophic meltdown would be if it was Levis. AR as a prospect is very intriguing. He obviously doesn't have the experience that CJ or BY have, but he does have the physical tools and his ceiling is higher. That said, it all depends on if he can be developed or not. I'm of the opinion that we take the best prospect and develop him. If that's CJ, BY, or AR, that should be the pick. What they can do now is less important to me than what they can become later.

Where folks get drafted doesn’t matter in terms of who is better. We are the clear best place to get drafted for a WB looking to start Day 1 right now out of the teams that need a QB so whoever we pick it set up to succeed.

and it doesn’t matter who we draft. I’ll support them. As I’ve said a bunch. I’m done with retreads. I’ll bitch all day about retread QBs. Finally taking a shot on a first round QB? Give me any of the top 4 and I’ll find a way to be happy with the pick.

What happens with Houston doesn't affect us in the least. Their pick goes their way and ours is ours. The two teams rarely play and the likelihood of a Superb Owl appearance pitting these two teams and QBs against each other is minimal.

If Houston passes on QB at this level, odds on favorites to trade up to get Stroud would be Indianapolis and Tennessee, two more teams that we would almost never face and likely wouldn't in a Super Bowl.

Stroud won't make it past the fourth, maybe the third, pick in the draft even if Houston passes. It's not a long term concern of ours, no matter how you do the math.

That being said, I believe the NFC South and AFC South will go head to head in games for 2023, so there is a bit of a head to head potential there, but both QBs will be in their rookie season and one or both could conceivably still be sitting on the bench taking mental reps at that time.
