But what if Young is not our target and we can still get our guy while picking up extra early 2nd rounder?

A) It just doesnt work like that in the nfl

B) I seriously doubt the panthers could pull this type of move off.  I know its a new era but incompetence has been the name of the game for this franchise for the better part of 30 year

But if Fitt did pull it off he would ascend to next level

Albright is just guessing. Heck, he said so himself.

The people who actually do have inside  connections pretty much all say the final decision isn't made yet.

Are Adam Schefter, Chris Mortensen, Albert Breer, Lance Zierlein, Peter King, all just guessing to when they say this is basically done? I’m not even someone that cares too strongly who the team selects. It can be Stroud, Young or Richardson and I’m all in. But this feels like a done deal barring an unforeseen late development.

And there are several who really like CJ in the organization. I bet it’s going down to the wire.

Is it enough though? We know McCown is one judging by the scouting video he did but he'll have little say. It's assumed Reich is one based on the fact he's the correct size and weight. Most reports seem to suggest Fitterer, Tepper and Brown are in the Young camp.

Ultimately I think there's more big hitters in the Young camp than the Stroud camp and that's what has/will swing the decision.

I don't think some of you realize how connected teams are.  Remember when the Saints leapfrogged us for a player they knew we were going to pick up?  Every NFL team is littered with guys who hear these things.

If Young isn't the Panthers target, then the Texans would be aware of this at the very least, by draft day.  And so they would have no reason to engage in trade talks with the Panthers because they know they will get their guy at #2... unless you think the Panthers would take Young out of spite, which is a foolish way to run a team.

Again, like someone said... if the Texans wanted #1 that bad, they were in the absolute best spot of any team in the NFL to do so.  But they didn't.  Bears could have gotten picks from them and then traded #2 for more picks/players.  Panthers are not playing some special ops mission trying to fool the Texans into trading up to #1.  Panthers are picking No. 1 overall, which is why they traded DJ Moore.

We also know McCown likes Young as well if you watched all the series

We know Thomas Brown (the guy who is literally designing the offense) likes Young.

We know Tepper likes Young.

There’s been reports Fitty likes Young.

It’s now known via either Joe Person or Gantt yesterday that Samir Suleiman likes Young.

and we know McCown likes Stroud as well off a handshake and comp on a video series where he broke down 10 plays of the best game of Strouds career

We've been repeatedly told that the 'brains trust' hasn't met to discuss who their QB is - so everything is just conjecture.

With regards to the trade - I suspect the Texans didn't expect a team would give up so much for the #1 overall pick. They enquired about it with the Bears, but balked at the price.

This whole situation only works if the Texans think Young is a franchise QB - again that's just rumours at this point, we've no idea what their Draft board looks like either.

Yes, teams leak things to each other, but not the entire Draft board.

The Jaguars were visiting with Zach Wilson in late March in 2021, but like....c'mon.

I think they have a very strong idea of who their guy is at this point and it would take something astronomical to change their mind.

I still think this is a giant smokescreen and we are trying to make the Texans panic into give us 32 and 2 for 1, and that we like both Stroud and Young equally

This. The panthers honestly have no reason not to smoke screen all the way up till the draft. What do they have to lose? Dont know why this is so hard understand. Much as i dont like the mind games, they can only benefit from them in the end even if its small. Only people getting upsets are the ones that know it just means that it would lessen the chances of getting the guy they keep gawking over. You cant predict when a trade will happen up till draft night.

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
