WR in draft

With the signing of Byrd, does this mean they are looking at defense for 2nd pick?

Not likely looking at Hopkins at this point($$), seem to be signing 2nd tier WR's.

Opinions on passing on a WR untill the later rounds.

i think after the QB, its mainly going to be BPA form edge, LB, CB, OLB, OL, TE, and RB....even toss in a PK/KR later rounds

Honestly look at the panther 2024 FAs, that tells you it needs to be BPA. Sanders, cj young...., burns, brown,(id say luvu, but hes a FA), maybe bell too, shaq is retiring soon too. Panthers need to focus on BPA.

I don't think the signing of Byrd changes much. Shi has been an unreliable receiver and his spot on this team is by no means guaranteed. Byrd also offers skill at the PR/KR position so he could be filling that WR4/5/6 spot with primary focus as a return guy. Either way, we still need a WR1 and if one is sitting there at 39, that could very well be the pick.

I think they will go edge with the second round pick, but they could draft OL for a starting G (TCU kid) or CB. When you consider that,  for the most part, the days 1 and 2 picks have a chance to start or be key contributors, we'd be very lucky to get 2 players after QB.   I would say that WR is now less likely to be a day 2 pick--

Edge

G

CB

(that is how I see it)

I think all the WR signings in general has pushed edge rusher to top of our needs after QB in round 1. It's past time to help Burns out

Any other positions are nice to have but not desperately needed like it Is for us to actually have a consistent pass rush

Aren't those positions also the early strength of the draft?

Fitterer is doing all the right moves this off season. Hopefully it pan out.

So much is going to depend on how players fall out of round 1. If a talent like Flowers, Hyatt or Addison is there at 39, I think you have to get him. We need a WR1/2 type to help our rookie QB that will be here on more than a 1 or 2 year deal.

You're right, we do need an edge rusher but I think this is also a deeper class for edge and CB both. Contributing IOL can be gotten in rounds 3-5 more easily than the other positions. Somebody projected in the 20s is going to fall, it happens every year. BPA in any of those 4 key areas would be a good choice. It just feels good to not have that level of desperation that's been here the past several years.

If a quality Edge is there we are going to have to consider it

We should seriously take the best football player there IMO.  Whichever that position might be

I have the felling #39 is getting traded. Fitt is going to want more draft picks and 39 is the most valuable asset the team has they can part with easily that allows them to pick up more picks in this draft.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
