I'm glad we agree that there are concerns about Stroud, as there are for Young.

Neither of them are going to walk on water.

Yeah that why it's a good debate.  Both prospects aren't flawless, and both have a lot to like.

What is really exciting is that one of these guys is very likely going to bust.  The odds of picking a franchise is less that 50% to begin with.  Odds are 2-1 against both Young and Stroud panning out.

Now we are in better shape in coaching, line, D, weapons and division than Houston so whoever we pick is coming into a better situation.  I'd just rather have the "taller processor" as Smitty put it.

NFL models projected Young to go bust.  The reason: Young takes very deep drop back to see over the line but he does not have a quick release and need to step into his throws to generate power/zip.  With blitzes and against heavy pass rush, he projected to struggle big time.  With NFL being much faster and physical than college, he projected to be hit early and often.  NFL has removed model results from their website about a week ago.  The analysis said for Young to be successful in NFL, requires team to have top Offensive Tackles tandem from preventing EDGE and LBs to go around them.  Young had one of the best OL in college football the last 2 years.

PFF, Draft Buzz, Sports News, ESPN,Walter Football, CBS Sports, NFL.com, and SI.com all have Bryce Young as  #1 on THEIR boards.    Not mock draft, who they would choose.

I'd take the taller processor.

We'll see who Reich and co take.

And, they both may bust. Such a gamble when taking these guys so high, especially after the haul we gave to get to #1.

Yeah but it's always a gamble when you draft a player.  Eventually you have to take that gamble.

I do feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Whenever I watch Young play I see a very limited athlete playing behind a stellar OLine. Don't get me wrong, he's a fun player to watch in College, but I just see another Manziel / Mayfield - a small dude with an average NFL arm who's been allowed to play backyard football behind a wall.

Just wait till Young is on the field all season and something happens that doesn't work out well. The posters that were all over his being drafted will call for his head just like the ones that did Cam the same way because he wasn't playing up to their standards.

Mayfield and Manziel both have issues mentally being a NFL QB. Manziel was a disaster from the beginning but neither of them were limited physically. Young’s strength appears to be his mental processing and preparation. He is actually a good athlete as well (top dual threat QB out of high school). He definitely has a chance to be special.

Stroud just has the look on tape of an NFL QB to me. I was never a big Russ fan because I felt like he relied on great d, great run game and sheer luck for most of his career and look at him now. I think Young is very much gonna be the same. Hope I'm wrong since that seems to be our pick, but Stroud seems like that dude.

Maybe but I also think that reveals a lot about his ceiling. I think a lot of QBs probably have the mental ability to play the game but they simply don’t have the reaction time and the physical traits to overcome the NFL caliber defense. If smarts was all it took then Fitzpatrick should be the best in the game and he’s obviously not.
