Maybe I’m greedy but I want 8 points however we get them, then it wouldn’t matter if the Devils win all 5 of the rest of their games.
Id prefer we get the 8 points with 4 wins out of 6 games to show Canes are in good playoff form but willing worst case to settle for 3-1-2 lol.

as brutal as that loss @ DET was, Rod's teams always respond well when things get toughest. We may have needed that wake up call considering even then we were coasting.  The past two games we have been back to out-efforting teams.  I'm hopeful we can maintain this division lead and we saw that we can still best NYI/Pitt in the first round.  We not be favored after, but our system works well in long series and anything can happen at that point

took a penalty there that the goal nullified

That was brilliant of Martinook to shoot the puck, he really had no pass and you can see the goalie had his head turned to Aho just sure it would be Aho to shoot it. And just perfect puck placement in the net.

yup--and the goaltender is thinking he will pass to Aho the entire time-- he is worried about the more dangerous player eventually being the shooter, which, to be fair--the defenseman literally was willing to take a penalty to make sure Aho didn't get that pass in a dangerous position.  Martinook isn't even the most talented guy with the nickname Jordo or Marty on the team but he's all effort and a great dude to have around.  And every once in a while he comes up huge like this

That’s what we need. Goalies need to be scared enough of Aho the rest doesn’t matter. That was textbook misdirection.

    • I always get lectured every year when we inevitably win some meaningless late season games to tank our draft position that we're building culture and you always have to try to win no matter what. This is why that's bullshit. Once you're out of contention it's to your competitive advantage to LOSE.
    • You’re tripping I hear what you’re saying but you’re not thinking of the benefits that trade gives us. We can then move around in the second round or late in the first to grab a specific player we covet like M Starks late in the 1st. Let me clarify if we’re at 21 we grab W Nolen or K Grant then trade up late in the 1 or early in the second giving up next years second for M Starks or T Amos there so much that can happen with that additional ammo.  Allowing us still so much leverage in next years draft as well with two first rounders we’d be dam crazy not to take a trade like that it’s not the big haul or heavy amount of picks we’re hoping for but it’s gets us multiple players especially ones we’ve seemed to taken a liking to like Nolen etc along with the safety from SC. or even a Luther B or James P early in the second. This nice influx in talent would help way more than a player like Jalon W. because of his high bust rate or probability  to bust….you know what I mean.  We need players we all know that those extra picks allow us to give up something this year to add key pieces from the 29-40 range that we may really like and have a need for (T Amos) and it not hurt as much because we’re stacked in round one of 26. Which could also be a pick one trade one scenario next year giving us more ammo to manipulate the draft to a winning situation for us long term. Al that to say we desperately need to be actively seeking a trade because we could add real talent in multiple spots this year and next with that current trade your opposing.
    • According to their list, the top guy hasn't put out a mock yet and the 2nd guy has us trading to 4 for Carter.
