Examining The First 3 Rounds

I disagree with corner being such a big need. We just need Horn and Donte to stay healthy. Your example of the Bucs is off base as when we had healthy corners we held them to 3 points. In the game Evans smoked us both Horn and Donte were out…

MHS, I appreciate the work you did here.

It opened my eyes to how slight/light the receivers are in the second round. While they might be talented,  I think that puts the edge guys as the bigger BPA in that round.

Blocking defensive ends like what we'll be after can be had later in the draft.  Corners always seem to be good day 3 picks.

If it were me, which thank God it isn't,  I'd go Edge in the 2nd, receiver in the 3rd.

I had my own concerns about needing another edge rusher...until we switched to a 3-4 defense. Burns will obviously be the primary pass rusher. The other OLB will be more versatile. Blitz the QB, stop the run and drop back in coverage. I say keep your eye on Brandon Smith. He might be perfect for that role!

This draft isn’t going to blow you away at WR with the talent at the top but there is sneaky day 2-3 potential.

I like some of the day 3 WRs as much as day 2, based on our needs.  I think we find one at some point, but not sure he helps much this year--but then again, we really need one in the event of injury--this year--but the need is there for 2024.  Like the way you said this.

I want Downs in the 2nd or Boutte in the 3rd. I think we need another WR especially after hearing about Chark’s recent ankle surgery.

I read an article or comment about Boutte that turned me against him--they accused him of "lazy" route running and inconsistent hands.  For what it is worth to anyone, I took him off my board for that reason, because when I see his name, that is what pops into my brain.

We still are very weak at NT which is vital in a 3-4. I think people should be ready for Mazi from Michigan if he's available.

That is another position that is a bit unclear right now.  We have McCall (56.8) who was decent in limited duty last year and Roy (54.0), who was slightly below average, according to PFF, my only measure of their performance.  Both weigh over 330 lbs.  Then we sign Tuttle, and everyone says he will play nose between Brown and Williams.  I do not see that.  I see YGM (pass rushing specialist on the inside?) and Williams in a rotation with Tuttle and Brown.  If so, are they going with McCall and Roy at NT?  I would hope not.

Sure would be a shame to overlook TE in this class...

I know--and we have a few bucks to spend--I would love to see us take away a need or two before the draft.  CB (Shaq Griffin to play nickel, backup CB) would be great, and I think we can find a solid WR like Jarvis Landry.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
