Thursday night flexing and the Panthers

Florio reports that the Panthers and Broncos abstained from the vote. He thinks either of them could use the leverage of agreeing to vote yes to get something from Goodell.

With the Broncos, it's wanting to host the Draft. As to the Panthers...he doesn't know.

For the record, I absolutely hate this idea and even if it would mean getting something from the league (not sure what) I'd prefer they vote 'no'.

Its bad enough that if you buy a ticket for a 1PM kick and make those plans you could find yourself holding tickets to 4:25 or worse yet an 8:15 kickoff.

The idea that you game changes days?  F that.

Mara called it "abusive"

The reason this is being looked at is because Amazon got a lot of sh-tty games last year and they were none too happy about it.

So the question comes down to whether the NFL cares more about pleasing a streaming partner or their loyal fans.

Sadly, I think we all know the answer to that question 🙄

Yet another example of why Roger Goodell is the worst commissioner the NFL has ever had.

And yet, it's The King right now.  This is not me taking up for him, more of a, no wonder the owners are cool with his paycheck.

And IMO, it's just wrong to do that to fans.  If I had booked tickets to fly to Green Bay and rented hotel rooms so I could show my son Lambeau....and they Flexed it two weeks prior......boy, I'd be HOT.

This is something that should be obvious to anybody with a brain.

And yet most NFL owners either seem to not know about it or not care enough about it to weigh it into their consideration.

Kudos to Mara at least for thinking of the fans.

Thursday games suck - the league is chasing revenue at the expense of players health and fans enjoyment.  Want to add another game?  Fine, do it on Saturday and compete with college football.  If your brand is so great, ratings will surely be fine, right?

    • Because being a pauper in the NFL is still making a king's ransom. NFL vet min is roughly 18x the median salary in the U.S.
    • At some point I sense it's gonna create some hate and locker room cancer between these cap hogs and the rest of the players. When the top 6 or 7 players take 80% of the cap, the other 40 plus guys are gonna get pissed off, especially when they're still only winning 5 or 6 games. Why put everything on the line to play with guys who are only in it for themselves?
    • I am just spitballing here--let it play out and I will go to bed: Let's say Mahome's contract comes due and he insists on $100m per season.  Is there a team that would find the money to pay it?  Would KC? It was in 2015 (I think) when Cam was getting $20m and it was hard to grasp.  In the past decade, the price of a franchise QB has tripled.  Then the next QB bases his contract on the Mahomes deal.  The trend has been the last QB contract is the highest.  I see nothing to discourage that trend--Greed can destroy a league.  Personally, I don't watch baseball any more, and the NBA has a small group of about 8 teams that appear on national TV and they have players who make more than some eastern block countries.  Ticket prices go up---and we are headed for pay-per-view very soon across the board-
