Did we get worse at the TDL

Side note, I`ve gotten to the point where I just turn off the radio in the work van when Adam Gold talks about the Hurricanes. He is so bad. Apparently all of our problems are because of goaltending and nothing else. Thats what he said. I want to slap him.

I agree there are other issues but goaltending has been a huge sore spot. Raanta has been decent in a couple of his playoff starts. He even said the fellas bailed him out in the OT win. Typical Andersen got “injured” during warm ups according to one thing I heard and then I heard he had an illness. He had “injury” issues when he was with the Leafs and he missed the playoffs last year and at the start this year. He is not dependable and the Canes should seriously let him go and look elsewhere.

Fun fact. If Dallas loses tonight every single Trade Deadline 1st round and second round traded with pick is out of the playoffs. If that tells you anything about TDL drama. 27/27 trades on playoff teams didn’t make it to the conference championship if Dallas loses.

We have to win the Cup. We just have to. We were expected to for over a year going into last offseason. I still believe we shouldve gotten a little more help. Waddell says we like our guys, so he basically said we are winning it with what we have. He has to back that up. Anything less than winning the Cup is a failure and I would still think Waddell didnt do enough and shouldnt be retained. We have been very fortunate with the matchups we have had in this playoffs. Go win it.

at this point, every team that sold future assets for a deadline move is eliminated. I don't think it's fair to label this season a failure at this point no matter where it ends, because the story for me ever since we advanced past first round is that we are doing whatever is our end while missing 3 60+ point forwards (hopefully just 2 going forward). that's not something you can plan for. yes, we could have made a move, but if you make those moves and sell those assets and then have similar injuries and get held back anyway--you mortgaged your future for tee times a la boston/new jersey/tampa etc.  At this point, the GM not giving up future assets and us making the conference final with major injuries is an outright win no matter what. considering it an abject failure is ignoring immense context and pretty unfair.

Yep waddle has my faith. And we have the pieces to move in the future while some of our competitors do not. We’re in a good place. I think Rod also has more say in roster construction than we think.

we went for Timo and we got out when the price got too steep. The fact that we eliminated the team that DID match that price frees Waddell from any TDL faults. We saw Horvat, Kane, and Meier all underperform in the playoffs, and they're all at home.

One thing about those acquisitions is that it inevitably takes time to mesh with new teammates and those acquisitions are going to feel immense pressure to perform. Our window is wide open. Pacioretty has already essentially hinted he would give us a discount for the way we traded for and have treated him. Svech will be back.  We can upgrade at goalie and backup goalie or keep one of the guys or use Kotchetkov as full time backup and go for a higher number one..and we can see where we stand and then see if we need to add someone big time at the trade deadline next year.

This scenario works whether or not we win the cup this year. Anyone objectively criticizing our GM at this point this season though I simply don't understand. Our roster is injured, but deep and we're still playing hockey. And we literally eliminated two of the dudes people were mad that we didnt end up with..

We had what, 6-8 million left on the cap table after TDL with Paci and Svech on LTIR? I don’t see how we didn’t take some advantage of that. Forget a timo that huge long term contract was never worth it.

This team has done an amazing job of stepping up in the playoffs and that and coaching are the only reason we are still here, not because an owner and GM knew we would be plenty good enough even with an injury to a player like Svech. (Initially we weren’t, look at Canes regular season record after Svech went down). Getting a little insurance is always a smart move.

Svech was not LT before the deadline. That’s the only gripe. We could have brought in a 3-4M rental to cover him had we been able to trade after the deadline. But I get why they don’t allow that.

That’s correct. Not preparing for a potential injury was the only mistake by owner/GM. Nevertheless we have players fighting harder than they ever have to win now that we are in the playoffs to bail them out.

    • What I really learned here is that the Carolina Panthers aren't anywhere near as bad as I initially thought they were earlier this year.  We've got a young and growing offense with some promising parts. But it still needs some tweaks and improvements.  We really still could still use a dominant #1 WR. But Chubba,  Legette, Coker,  and J.Sanders have generally looked decent. Bryce took a big leap after the benching. We can score enough points to keep pace with 2x defending super bowl champions, so offense isn't a huge issue. Main thing that needs improvement is defense. We sorely need a CB 2, and a number of new players at Dline and LB.  We're not quite as bad at edge with Wonnum showing promise.  But we definitely need 1 or 2 more edges Clowney is old.  Run D is probably worse prevailing theme these past couple years. We really need a good young stud or two to pair with Derrick Brown and another LB to pair up with Trevin Wallace. If Morgan and Canales can focus on rebuilding the defense this off-season and possibly going out and getting a #1 WR. This team could easily be somewhere around 7-10 to 10-7 and flirting with playoffs in 1 or 2 seasons. Overall this game has made me feel alot more positive about the direction of the team.
    • With our picks we need pass rush, lb, Safety, a speedster yac wr, o line depth and I still want a mid round qb. We got 9 picks and 8 in the first 5 rounds. If they pull Off another solid draft we be cooking.
    • We had one passing touchdown against the Giants and one passing touchdown against the Chiefs today. Yes a good backup can replicate that. And that is why Andy Dalton in significantly less games has the same number of 30 point outings as Bryce Young. I am on board with you guys about wanting to be hopeful for the future. Today was a good performance to build on especially at home. But let's please keep things in perspective. BTW the Bucs who honestly aren't even that good blew the doors off the Giants today after we went to overtime against them with 17 points. Again. Perspective.
