Watch the game tape against Kentucky.  Dude couldn’t hit the ocean with a beach ball.  Against NFL CBs, he would have had 10 interceptions that game.  His lack of WR talent has nothing to do with 10-15 yard overthrows.  Heck the few he did complete were either wide open receivers or great catches made on bad throws

He's a Gators fan, he'll have seen more of Richardson than any of us.

Kentucky (a good defence btw) was Richardson's 3rd ever career start (I think he started a game as a Redshirt Freshman). Even then he's pulling out throws like this: 

*this video is difficult to watch - there's 3 legit terrible drops immediately after that incredible throw 

The deal that people seem to be missing about Richardson is that it's not what he currently is that people are drafting, it's what he's got a chance of becoming. That isn't 'pie in the sky' potential either based purely on his measurables, you can visibly see him improve throughout the 2022 season and his pocket presence / processing is one of the more impressive things about him. 

If he doesn't progress a lick from where he is now he's still a second round pick and an NFL starter - a big armed QB with a nice deep ball that you'd lean on heavily in the running game (until he inevitably broke).

 

As I've repeatedly said, I think it's all a moot point 'cos we're most likely taking Stroud, but Richardson is the only QB I get excited about in this Draft.

I am hoping it is a situation similar to last year. Bunch of hype coming out of the pro day and it seemed we may have multiple QBs in the first. 
Man were we and the media wrong about that. I think the same thing will happen here.

It might work for a bit, but we had a similar thing with Newton. Atlanta and Wade Phillips showed everyone how to beat it.

It might work for a bit, but we had a similar thing with Newton. Atlanta and Wade Phillips showed everyone how to beat it.

Yeah I have read something similar. But it seems like Reich wants a QB that is more pocket passer and only has to rely on his legs if he has too. 
That sounds more like Stroud and Young to me. 
As you said, Richardson, at least in his rookie year if he plays, will pretty much be a running back who occasionally passes. I have seen people say we should go to a triple option type of system. But that doesn’t work in the NFL. Players are too fast and diagnose plays too quickly.

His worst completion % of the year came his final game - that doesn’t scream improvement to me.  
 

idk - I just think he will be out of the league in a few years.  He screams Terrelle Pryor to me.

One of his specific comments was "At some point, you have to be able to win the game from the pocket."

He's literally a pocket QB.

Are people genuinely seeing his 40 yard time and thinking "well he's clearly a run first QB"? 'Cos that's not what he shows on tape.

      I'd say its definitely going to be addressed this off-season.  We went into the last draft with a roster of RBs including:  Chubba, Blackshear, and Miles Sanders. We picked Jonathan Brooks in the second and still signed Rashaad Penny afterwards.  Fast forward....One turned into a top 10 back, 1 is injured/out for most if not all the '25 season, 1 retired, 1 will either take a huge paycut or be cut, and the last is a restricted free agent. We brought in Mike Boone as well. Add him to the free agent list also.  We need a physical option.    Which qualifies:  Ashton Jeanty(Boise St): Overall ranked Top 10. Almost 2k yards after contact, 28 tds. Would take our first rounder. My money would be on an NFC East team selecting him. (97.2 PFF run grade) - 121 forced missed tackles.  Omarion Hampton(UNC): Ranked everywhere from 20 - 59 overall. Consensus #2 back after Jeanty. He'll be a second rounder. 1,222 Yards after contact w/ 15 tds.  (90.5 PFF run grade) - 72 forced missed Tackles Kaleb Johnson(Iowa): Ranked from 38 - 69 depending on which media outlet you prefer but generally #3. 2nd/3rd possibly. 1,060 Yards after contact w/ 21 tds.(86.7 PFF run grade)- 66 forced missed tackles Cam Skattebo: Ranked from the 50's - 104. Every mock I do he ends up BPA at some point. 969 Yards after contact w/ 17 tds(92 PFF Run Grade). Probably the best receiving back of the group. 81 forced missed tackles.  If the '24 and '25 draft classes were combined, IMO the rankings would be, in order: Jeanty, Hampton, Brooks, Johnson, Skattebo. I wouldn't take one high but I'd take one for Chubba and Brooks insurance.
