Former Panthers QB Cam Newton to be throwing at Auburn's Pro Day

Cam to Atlanta would be painful.  I don't want to play Cam. I don't want him to beat us - nor do I want our D to embarrass him.

However - If the Colts were to draft AR at 4 and they bring in his hero to be the bridge and mentor - that would be amazing... although that would mean playing him once in BOA.  That could be fun - hopefully he does well but we win.

You make it sound like he's a locker room cancer. Truth is he's just too popular. He's an icon to younger players and everyone knows what's he capable of, so no matter how he behaves there's no flying under the radar for Cam especially on a QB needy team. We saw it happen here.

I do think when his shoulder's healthy he's better than a number of starters in the league but as you said, how many games can it realistically hold up for? I am a little surprised no one is kicking the tires when Rhule clearly misused him.

Bingo, excellent post.

Not sure what the intent of the video was.  But in point of fact there is very little footage of Cam actually throwing the ball.  A lot more footage of some guy catching passes with no clear indication of what types of routes or depth or . . . anything.  It was more of a fan hype video than anything that will make a scout go "Oh, maybe I should go watch".

Is it a shame that he had to take the beating he took and go out at less than his best?  Sure, of course.  But all indications are that he just isn't an NFL QB any longer.

I'm afraid Cam may just be one of those guys who has real trouble letting it go.

And yes, I think there is some truth to the thought that Cam is too big a personality to be a backup QB.  Cam himself is the one who cultivated that over his career.  It's not a bad thing when you are 2015 Cam.  But in 2023 - eight years past his prime - he's going to have a very hard time being the quiet, humble mentor.

Atlanta may be the best option for Cam though. That team is set up for his style of play athletic TE Pitts and a big body WR London. He's a hometown kid so he might help sell tickets. Atlanta still rebuilding so they can afford to give Cam a tryout year they have nothing to lose.

Does the version of him that you miss still exist though?

I think that's where a lot of people struggle.

it is the whole package that i miss. the personality...the swagger, i think i miss that presence being on the team as much as i miss the talent.

it's going to be hard for the next QB to bring all of that back. i mean he doesn't have to, but Cam sure made it fun to be a panthers fan. winning will be great, but there was just something about that big personality that i don't think will ever be matched.

I get that. Don't really think there's anybody with that kind of persona in this year's draft.

I'm more the type that I don't give a sh-t if you're exciting or boring as long as you play the position well.

I miss him in a panther uniform, and would love to see him get another opportunity elsewhere, but I think it’s over.

Either way, I’ll always root for him. I still smile when I see the South Fulton - Home of Cam Newton signs when I go back and forth to work each day.

Just shut up and dribble am I right

No he shouldn’t be dribbling the football either it’s not doing any good to his injured shoulder.

also, genius, Cam himself has said his big personality is the reason teams are not signing him. I’m saying he should take his own advice.

nice try though

Is he throwing for their WR's because they don't have anyone legit for the drills? Or they don't have a draft eligible QB so they're letting him showcase what shapes he's in? I guess there's not really any specific rules about who can do what at pro days

All I know is when Cam goes to Auburn, he can do whatever he wants lol. That place is owned by Bo and Cam and always will be.

(Honorable mention to our boy Kevin Greene too)

Love Cam...

Wish whoever advising him gave him better advise. He should of thrown before free agency to give him a better chance to get picked up, far to late into the off season to be doing this. Wish him the best of luck though, he is and may always be my favorite Panther.

typically i'm like that as well, but for a long time there was no life to the organization. we had started losing and we were ok with it. there was just a sense of apathy and the fanbase needed a recharge, they needed a sense that it was ok to get hyped up about the team. i think the fanbase was mainly a bunch of wine and cheesers (as we used to call them) and the reputation was that when someone did get excited in the stands, they would call security on them to get them to sit down and be quiet when the game was being played.

cam brought not just excitement to the playing, but excitement to the team and the fanbase. he was the guy this franchise needed to get it off it's collective ass. he made it fun and the fact that there were moms in Tennessee complaining about him to the press and players on other teams that didn't like his swagger just made it even more fun. they didn't like it, but they couldn't stop him and wouldn't have until the refs made it open season on him allowing all kinds of late  and other douchebag level hits on him.

when he got pumped up, it had a contagious effect on the team and the fans. he was infectious and in that way, it absolutely mattered that he was more than just a guy who played the position well.

    • After the Chiefs game a 6'5 X would really help in the Red zone. I would also love to add Slayton in FA
    • But again, you can restock a defense through free agency much easier than offensive skill positions. Spend all our cap space on defense, take a true elite prospect who also happens to fit a position of need in T-Mac, and then use the rest of our picks on defense. Again, every season there’s a smattering of great DL, LB, and DB options in free agency, a Top 10 WR never hits free agency, ever.  The only way you get one is through the draft or giving up 1st round picks in a trade for one. If he’s there when we’re on the clock, he has to be the pick, he’s just that good.
    • It must be an early Christmas for JT O'Sullivan having Thielen back so he could put a coal in Thielen's stocking every chance he gets.  Honestly, the biggest surprise is not so much the anticipation. There were those moments here and there last year as well. It's that even that one positive quality he had seemingly vanished his first two games to where it looked like it was all but over, only for it to start coming back some until you get exclamation points all over this game film. And some of those throws were under a lot of duress, something I feel is something new. Finally, those deeper shots are starting to land. Not all of them, but enough that defenses may have to start respecting them. No guarantees whether this will end up as more of anomaly but I certainly hope it isn't. The Green Bay game was a sampler of what BY could be. Against KC, we got a meal. If we could start getting these meals regularly, we might actually have something to work with here.
