The players want the Deshaun Watson contract to be the new standard. If Deshaun got X, then Lamar should get Y kind of argument but the contract offered to Deshaun was simply stupid. What surprises me is the contract Daniel Jones got.  Lamar deserves more than that dude.

Deserves got nothing to do with it. It's what a team is willing to pay for their services.  You cannot explain why some team hands out some crazy contract the way some teams do. Just because one organization was dumb enough to overpay player A you cannot expect another team to overpay player B in the same fashion.

There's a reason the Ravens already reportedly already made Lamar Jackson an obscene offer, and it isn't because he's not worth it and the best years are behind him. At the same time there's a reason why a lot of players have been vocally supporting him on Twitter.

The NFL is a business, and I don't blame players for starting to think of it as the owners do.

I get what you're saying and I agree except he not thinking of it like owners do. Unless your mom is used to negotiating quarter billion dollar deals, get a pro. Unless you're familiar with navigating NFL contracts, get a pro. NFL owners and GMs are no different than any other business owner. They're trying to negotiate deals to their advantage and it's up to the other guy to protect his best interest. They spend millions on specialists to do this for a reason. Lamar should have too.

No, you're right, he needs an agent. It's just when specifically talking about the playoffs he missed I don't understand why anyone would fault him when aggravating an injury that could end his career, going into the off-season where he's finally getting paid.

I guess it all depends on if he sat out for contract reasons or if he was legitimately worried about not being completely healed. Only he knows that. I think part of why it doesn't look good for him though is you have guys like Purdy who's arm was hanging by a thread, and he played. A career is a career. I'm sure Purdy's is just as valuable to him as Lamar's. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but appearances can do a boatload of damage whether true or not. I really hopes he wises up and hires an agent soon, for no other reason than to navigate everything outside of the contract talks.

Lamar was playing for free?  Who knew?

Poppycock.  He was under contract and cashing the checks weekly.  He was being paid.  He owed 'performance' under the contract to the team that was paying him, and a moral obligation to his teammates to not 'mail it in'.

Anyone who deals with contracts understands the 'performance' obligation.  Look it up.

This the 2nd day in a row media members are calling us losers on Nat'l tv. I think I know why Darnold/PJ/Mayfield/Bridgewater have been our QB's.

 

Lamar is a winning QB so that just doesn't make sense to Tepper.

Rhule wanted T2G, Darnold and Mayfield. PJ was here because of his connection to him. 

I don't care about being called losers for not going after Lamar yet if at ever. It's funny the media isn't calling him out on never hiring an agent and helping put himself in the position he's in. But then again, that doesn't make for a good victim story that gets lots of clicks.

No one put a gun to his head.  Don't like it, go to the CFL or get a real 9 to 5 job like every other person.

You sign the contract, you perform to the terms of the contract, just like everyone else.

He's always had the choice to play professional football. Part of choosing a career is knowing the freedoms and limitations of that choice. He could chose to play within the confines of a NFL contract or try and negotiate a better one. It's always been his choice.
